About this deal

Family Historian offers publishing tools to support most people’s needs – a mind-boggling array of charts, infinitely customisable, accompanied by 40 reports, along with a book-publishing tool that lets you combine these with your own custom-written content. Added support for formatting means your reports and books will look better than ever.

Last week I had to print a descendants report. And I found to my horror that FTM has changed all the lineage’s. The descendants report I printed on Feb 23, 2021, right after the “new” FTM was installed was accurate, but this week it’s not. It has put my sister’s (2nd) husband’s lineage after her name instead of her own lineage. And worse, it’s put the same ancestors after both her children from a first marriage. The ancestors of their stepfather instead of their mother’s ancestors. Contrariwise, Branches recognises EVEN, so if I go directly from MacFT to Branches I retain events and places – but I lose names unless I go via FamTM. Another annoyance is that there are still some problems with the Web Clipping function in Web Search, especially in the Mac version: RootsMagic: RootsMagic has a straightforward interface, with easy access to the main features. However, it may appear somewhat dated compared to the other two options. Its simplicity is a plus for beginners, but advanced users may prefer more visually appealing software. Data Management and Reporting Though it is admittedly less known than the first two apps, Family Historian is still something useful for your genealogy research.RootsMagic can directly import data from Personal Ancestral File (PAF), Family Tree Maker, Legacy Family Tree, The Master Genealogist, or Family Origins *. It also imports GEDCOM, the universal

More of a user interface (UI) design flaw than a bug is the fact that in the Media workspace for both versions, the Find/Search box serves no useful purpose for the All Media or By Media Category lists. It cannot be used to find a media file by caption title. In the All Media list, it can only be used to find the words “Photos” or “Stories,” and in the Media Category list, it can only be used to search for a category the user has in their tree, such as “Books.” There really should be a way to search for a media item by caption, date, or description within the Media workspace, rather than having to use the global Find and Replace function.

Easy to Start: Users can start building their family tree with just one name. The more information added, the more detailed and comprehensive the tree becomes, with each name serving as another piece of the family story.
