I'm only disappointed at how short this was. Not just the book, but the entire story happens in a period of about 3 months. That's way too less for the amount of drama I was promised before reading.
I have to say the Nikolai is probably one of the best book husbands I’ve read about in quite some time. His reputation is understandably absolutely terrifying but Amara being his wife, he treated her like an absolute queen. Took the time to care for her, yet was ruthless to anyone that even looked at her wrong. While the H navigates these treacherous waters, he also has to keep his girl, the one who's central to it all, safe and teach her how to live and be strong in this dangerous world. And make no mistake, this is a dangerous and violent world; it's brutal and bloody. The sex is no different, it is rough, often violent and intense (but always consensual). While there are times they do "make love", there are other times that were a bit extreme for me; like when he uses the barrel of a loaded gun (he had his reason and it accomplished his goal), but that scene made me uncomfortable. I'm not typically squeamish about kinky sex acts. I think it was just the fact that the gun was loaded that bothered me. (I kept wanting to yell, " What if you accidentally hit the trigger and the gun goes off!" Guess it's the Mother in me! LOL!)
I bow down to you Jenika Snow for such a spicy and delicious story! We met Nikolai in Arlo's book and the glimpses we get of him lead the reader to believe he is going to be a crazy one. He does not disappoint. The man is a ruthless killer that holds onto his reputation and status with an iron fist. There are very few people he cares about and when he enters into an arranged marriage to bring two sides together, he sees it as a means to an end. Little does he know that when he sees his betrothed for the first time she becomes everything to him and he would do anything to keep her safe and ONLY his. And then I found myself painted red, my wedding dress stained in blood. A man dead by my husband's hands for simply touching my hair. Really nothing special about this. Characters were annoying. Honestly didn’t care for any of them, the weird attempt at kink to love story with violent leanings. Female main character was pathetic and the male was could be any alpha male there was nothing unique or interesting about either.
From the instant, Nikolai lays eyes on his bride to be he’s entranced and vows to protect her from any harm including that by her own father. He also can’t wait to corrupt and dirty her up and he’s delighted when they seem to fit so well. The book opens up with a scene that includes Arlo (Cold-Hearted Bastard 😍), Nikolai and Dmitry negotiating with Arlo to get rid of their toxic father. When it comes to horrible fathers, the brothers know what it’s like to have one. And so does Amara😒. To solidify ties between the Bratva and Costa Nostra Amara Bianchi and Nikolai Petrox are to wed sight unseen. He’s a dark merciless killer whilst Amara is just eighteen and innocent. Nikolai is a hard ass with a craving for blood. Seeing his new wife in her wedding dress covered in blood is his true paradise. He jealous possessive but not old world sexist. No one brings the sizzle quite like Jenika Snow! The dark, dirty talking alpha, the mafia danger, the panty melting chemistry, and a newly empowered heroine. Jenika always so perfectly marries the swoony and the smutty- and I gobbled this one right up!
