I greatly admire Sennheiser headphones—I’ve had a classic on-ear HD 414 SL in my recording studio for 40 years. These days, the company also makes in-ear headphones (IEHs), including the IE 300, which was introduced at CES 2021. The Sennheiser IE 300 are the kind of earphones that the big names don’t make often anymore. They’re a simple, wired set whose focus is entirely on sound quality.

IE300 has a very good depth in it and very good imaging capabilities; Although as a result of which the soundstage suffers a bit giving an average width and quite decent height. Listening to Bassnectar – Reaching Out and Dream Catcher has similar impacts with very good bass response, imaging and instrument separation but fails to give a holographic presentation but the overall tonality and presentation is amazing that hit on the soundstage doesn't even come to notice if not listened critically. The Sennheiser IE 300 use a MMCX connector, not a fully proprietary one, but there’s a stabilising lip of plastic by the join so you’ll probably need a cable designed for this pair. A removable cable also opens up the possibility of future wireless use. You can already buy Bluetooth MMCX adapter cables for other pairs.Each driver is placed in a relatively compact enclosure - its size being helped in no small part by the relative compact single driver. Despite being small, it contains a specially shaped chamber to manage the air behind the driver and better control the flow of air out to the listener. Sennheiser says that this, in combination with a decent seal in the ear canal gives the IE300 the ability to deliver an extremely flat and even frequency response. For the first week or so I used the silicone tips, and was never quite sure if the seal was quite right. No such problem with the foam tips. As for the audio, all I am going to say is the bass, MY GOD, THE BASS! If you are a bass head and care about nothing but the bass, these are for you. I can finally “feel” the thump-thump of the slow dramatic heartbeat during the aforementioned intense action movie scenes. If you have ever been a fan of the opening sequences to Christopher Nolan films (The Dark Knight and Tenet specifically), you haven’t heard anything yet! Wow! Just wow! IMAX quality in your ears. The bass was crisp and impactful. The highs were kind of subdued and the mids were great.
