About this deal

In the case of flat curves with a larger radius, the superelevation will be negligible as the centrifugal force which will be developed is very less. In this condition, the normal camber may be retained also on the curve.

There is no point on the curve that will have a negative superelevation at the outer half of the pavement at the start of the transition curve. In the first method, the outer half of the cross slope is rotated about the crown at the rate such that the surface of road falls on the same plane and the elevation of the centre line is not varied. Super-elevation has two main considerations: speed and curvature. I have seen steam-headed drag freights rounding super-elevated curves at a crawlin the prototype that made me wonder if it was safe. I have video of hulking Norfolk & Western Ry articulated drag engines seeming to want to tip over on curves elevated so much that it was scary, but they trundled right along. Later, a fast articulated A Class came thundering around the same curve near 45 mph and it looked much more reasonable. Road design generally specifies a transition which is 1 or 2 ft/sec

In the second method, the crown is gradually shifted by increasing the width of the inner half of the cross-section. Please note that we are only able to deliver to the UK mainland, excluding Post Office boxes and BFPO.

What I did is start the height adjustment right before entering the curve with a slight elevation increase every 2-inches. (Author in the article adjust per inch) I've never built a layout with super-elevated curves, but after seeing some really cool pictures taken on layouts that have them, I'd like to give it a try.The main aim of providing superelevation is to counteract the effect of centrifugal force acting on the moving vehicle. Someone mentioned that superelevation needs to be achieved gradually. True and this change should coincide with a transition curve, a spiral between the straight and the curve or between two curves. The length shouldn't cause a gradient of the outer rail greater than 1:256 so a 3" superelevation requires a 64' transition. Sales staff were really efficient and friendly and the delivery team were great. All round good experience". I didn't know that about the inner rail height staying the same on the prototype, or that the inch elevation is almost equal to the tilt angle. Yet some more good stuff learned here on MRH! Thanks!

I'm not so sure that the idea of tilting the sub-roadbed with the risers would work as well as you described however, at least not on my layout. The joists that support my roadbed are on 16" centers. That's a pretty wide span to be used to alter the super-elevation of a curve that might occur between those joists. The riser idea also wouldn't work on those portions of the layout where curves are occurring on a big flat piece of 5/8" plywood, such as in the vicinityof a yard. The Sealy Posturepedic Elevate Alto Firm mattress provides the firmest feel in our Sealy Posturepedic range. Featuring Sealy’s uniquely designed and tested technology, the AlignSupport® spring system as well as a layer of InfiniLux™ foam, ComfortCore® and firm and extra firm comfort layers.
