About this deal

Anyway, this case is based around Sabrina, who is a counsellor working at Camp Wonder Falls (lol) in 1978. She goes off into the woods with her friends, who all leave her alone at one point or another and then things fall eerily silent. Someone is behind her. FOR FANS OF: YA murder mysteries, the Truly Devious series, summer camp horror movies Content + Trigger Warnings

This book was like a comfortable hug. I have come to love these characters and the mysteries they solve. There's humor, funny dialogue, and a decently clever (if just a little bit Scooby-doo-ish at the end) mystery. The 70s setting of the murders was also a nice addition, because it can allow today's readers to see just how far police investigation and technology has come. I hope the author continues with this series because there are many directions this can go now, and I'll take all of the contemporary YA mysteries! Everyone believes that Salil Singh killed his girlfriend, Andrea Bell, five years ago—except Pippa Fitz-Amobi. About the book: After solving the case of Truly Devious, Stevie Bell investigates her first mystery outside of Ellingham Academy in this spine-chilling and hilarious stand-alone mystery from New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson. Stevie and her friends reconvene to share intel. A guy called Jason becomes a suspect but probably only for killing Todd. In the third book, The Hand in the Wall, the infamous Ellingham Murders were finally solved by our favorite student sleuth, Stevie Bell.

Somewhere in Massachusetts, Stevie said. Looks pretty, I guess. He even said I could bring my friends. Look at the blood on this blanket here... Patty invites Stevie to the bakery, where Stevie spots a photo of Patty’s dad on the wall. Apparently it’s the only photo she has of him and it’s from the giant picnic of 1978. He got angry when Patty didn’t go to college and called all of her (dead) friends deadbeats. The mystery, despite being solved a bit easily, has some interesting twists and is filled with plenty of action. Carson shares a presentation about the murders and discusses his ideas for the podcast. There’s a lot of info on the victims and the people from town who may have been connected to the murders.

THE BOX IN THE WOODS | Kirkus Reviews

After solving the case of Truly Devious, Stevie Bell investigates her first mystery outside of Ellingham Academy in this spine-chilling and hilarious stand-alone mystery from New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson. So the gang reunites the solve the 4 decades long mystery and this is where I’m shutting my big mouth! The new owner offers Stevie an invitation: Come to the camp and help him work on a true crime podcast about the case.Over on your left, you'll see a pretty good series starter, a mystery book with fun banter and completely unhinged and unrealistic characters but also an autumn-y boarding school setting. Highs and lows. Oh. Okay. I’ll have a... I guess... make it a half pound of that, and a pound of... do you have low-fat Swiss cheese?

and I thought of you right away. How would you like to come and work here this summer and look into the case with me? You could be a counselor at the camp, but mostly you could do what you need to do to look into the case. I can provide you with travel funds and pay you for your time. You can bring friends, if that sweetens the deal. It’s a camp—there’s plenty of room.

In fact, Stevie and David’s healthy long-distance relationship was one of my favorite parts of The Box in the Woods. MURDER IS WRONG, OF COURSE. STEVIE’S FUTURE WAS PREDICATED on that fact. She wanted to solve murders, not commit them. To solve them, you had to understand why they’d occurred. Motive. That was the key. It was all about motive. Understand the reasons behind the act. What pushes another human being to that point of no return? It has to be a strong impulse.

Funny Murder

Stevie flipped to the photo of the grandmotherly woman with the old-fashioned glasses and bun who was peering lovingly into a skull. I always enjoy a scary summer camp vibe and this definitely had that. It was campy, mysterious and cleverly-plotted. A fantastic set-up. Susan calls Stevie to talk about Allison. Susan wants to meet Stevie, so Stevie and David drive out to see her. But something evil still lurks in Barlow Corners. When Stevie opens the lid on this long-dormant case, she gets much more than she bargained for. The Box in the Woods will make room for more victims. This time, Stevie may not make it out alive.

The following day, Carson holds a festival where he introduces everyone to Stevie. They meet Patty at the bakery and Allison (Sabrina’s sister) at the library. It's finally Summer and for True Crime enthusiast, Stevie Bell, that means returning home from Ellingham Academy. After solving a real-life murder case at school, working at the deli counter of a local grocery store is going to be a real Snooze Fest. Yawn, indeed. also, the romance. i have nothing against david but unfortunately that was a classic example of telling without showing. i have no idea why these two love each other. there wasn't a single moment of bonding. they met face to face after months and their interaction was lukewarm at best. they fought (because why talk things out when you can be angsty instead) and then we get the confession?? what? Do you see the kid with the red hair?” he replied. “Blue shirt? His name is Lucas. He is my nemesis.”
