I basically inhaled this book at the fastest speed my brain could comprehend the words my eyes were seeing. I practically read this in one sitting (probably would have definitely if I didn't start the book at midnight last night), which is quite an achievement for me at the moment since I have been going through quite a little bit of a slump and slowly getting out of it.

The Umbra is tied with the Frost Spirit for having the third highest amount of health out of any enemy in the game, only beaten by the Void Reaver and the Nuclear Monster.He might be the last dragon and he might be in a contract with a horrible king who wanted to destroy the very realm they all lived in. But a woman like that still existed. He could feel the power of her soul calling out to him. There was unfinished business between them. He could only hope to see her again. Will she be able to retrieve her memories to help her decide, or will she stay in the dark forever, dreaming of a man she should hate?

But as if you needed any other reasons to love him, he is also loyal, caring, protective of his realm and his people. The way his relationship with Rory develops and how he comes to care for her and becomes devoted to her is so sweet and romantic and I was immediately owned by them. Spike is reunited with his long lost sister Ran'sea. But the reunion with the rest of his family is far from joyous when somepony tries to assasinate him during a rite of passage ceremony. Can Private find the anciet grudge that caused this? This NA fantasy, murder-mystery/revenge/romance is full of playful banter, intrigue, and loveable characters, and will very likely appeal to fans of books like A Touch of Darkness, These Hollow Vows, and Serpent & Dove.The Umbra's name is the word for the inner shadow of any opaque object. The world building is top tier and so well thought out. The writing is addictive and the characters are perfection. I could not put it down and my only regret is not reading it sooner.

I feel like both Rory and Caius are broken in their own way and yet they complete each other. Their story is one of my favorites and I really am looking forward to what is to come. Also, the development of all relationships in this book was written extremely well. Seriously, the friendships, the found family, EVERYTHING!Many years ago, shortly before the birth of one Twilight Sparkle, Celestia, ruler of Equestria, found a small item in a forest. That item? An egg. Around the same time, Celestia, ruler of Draconica found something small in a forest. A pony. Upon death, glitch particles were emitted from The Umbra's body and the voicelines appeared to lag. Caius, The Umbra King, is so hot I cannot. At first, I thought he was a little too forward and aggressive, but wow this man had some of the best lines. I giggled and swooned so many times. He seems like an evil king, but the way he takes care of his realm, fell for Rory, and protected her was so sweet. “I will always make your tears my own. We’re in this together.” See what I mean? Sweet man. Aurora/Rory is a killer with a big heart, and I really liked her. She is strong, has a sharp tongue, and would do anything for her loved ones. She sees herself as a monster even though she’s a hero. She stood tall even when she was afraid and didn’t let people push her around.
