About this deal

If you operate the volume without knowing this, it will cause serious troubles such as destroying the speaker. I immediately reported this issue to Topping. I hope it will be improved as soon as possible. Same SINAD at both 2V and 4V which is crazy at 120dB for BOTH. But alas, the 50mV spec is missing. (I wonder, could we get SINAD and not just SNR for 50mV?) I know you don't do it for DACs, but still :\ An avid audiophile for many decades, Jimmy has been writing about hi-fi since 1980 in a host of British magazines, from What Hi-Fi to Hi-Fi Choice. Based in London, England, he’s one of the UK’s most prolific record and CD collectors – no streaming service can yet match his amazing music collection! Given that the only time a speaker isn't distorting is when it's not playing and the louder it plays, the worse the distortion; I wouldn't want to be in the room when the KEFs were doing that. With the help of careful design and adjustment, E50 provides a distortion as low as 0.00009% and a dynamic range of 126dB, providing you with perfect sound quality.

These headphones present an accurate image of your music than ordinary headphones, allowing you to hear every nuance and aspect of your music. Therefore, having a good set of studio headphones is just as important as any other gear in your studio. HPs : V-Moda M80, Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro, Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro, Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Sony MDR XD300, Kef Space One, Focal Listen, Thieaudio Phantom, Hifiman Deva(BT). Starting with the E50 DAC/preamp, I partnered it with a well respected mid-price CD player to get an idea of its worth and was impressed by what I heard. The Topping DAC delivered results that sounded comparable to the player's own DAC using the unbalanced RCA outputs. Not bad! Using the balanced XLR outputs improved the sound still further, giving a noticeably increased sense of depth and richness, plus greater dynamic impact and clarity. Given the state of the world right now, it should come as no surprise that inflation is rearing its ugly head again. Thanks to the aftermath of the global pandemic and a major European war, prices are going up as people's disposable incomes fall. With significant hikes in food and fuel costs, not to mention dearer petrol, electricity, and gas, we badly need a remedy. Quite simply, what the world needs now is cheaper, better hi-fi!Together, the E50 and PA5 make a great little budget, baby pre-power amplifier combination – with a clean, detailed and engaging sound. Indeed I couldn't help but reflect on the superb value offered by this brand. In terms of sound quality, Topping Audio compares favourably with rivals easily costing two or three times as much. Most amplifiers have SNR at 105db. I could be wrong. I know SNR is important. Then you can hear small nuances in the mix better. As the name implies, anything branded as studio headphones is designed especially for a studio setting with a particular focus on accuracy and transparency for monitoring and mixing. Topping E50 for a desktop DAC is a sound choice. Just be wary to get the balanced power output that it uses TRS rather than XLR. But if you consider the PA5 for an all round solution as the AMP, then it's not a bad way to go about it. You can already listen to 24 bit music for decades. You don't need true 24 bit resolution for that. You can't hear -120 dB signals in music anyway (if it could be recorded in real life situations anyway).

Ceterum censeo: For the consumer, this whole Hires BS is plain marketing. Any differences are due to different mixing/mastering. The issue of maximizing volume when lowering the volume level to -99 when playing DSD on the E50 has been resolved by a firmware update from Topping. So, thinking from a synergetic point of view, I suspect that something with a more recent Sabre chipset would be a good choice. Geshelli Labs j2, Loxjie D30 V2, SMSL SU-8s? Someone suggested the Allo Revolution on another forum but I can't find much on it. It caused me to calculate that the LS50s are a realistic 84dB/W speaker. At 3-4m and assuming the PA5 is 2x85W @ 4 Ohms (it's more depending on the distortion limits allowed) that's enough to hit 98dB(SPL) peaks at the main listening position with the KEFs. One of the internet radio services - TuneIn, etc. As long as you can get access to BBC and country/regional radio services for where you are. When using USB input in pre-mode, the volume is suddenly maximized when the volume is lowered from -0.0 to the minimum value of -99. This symptom is the same for both balanced and unbalanced outputs. It is completely normal when inputting OPT/COAX.

Three different anti-aliasing filters are provided, selectable via the supplied remote control, with 'fast roll-off – minimum' being the default setting. This sounds like an exciting feature, but on most music, much of the time, there wasn't a huge degree of difference in terms of sound – the changes were pretty subtle. Nevertheless, this cute little device has an extremely clear, clean and detailed sound for its price – and of course, it is an inexpensive way into MQA. It is easy to use and has a very handy (for some) balanced output facility. It's hard not to recommend, all things considered. E50 uses the latest high-performance DAC chip ES9068AS. Our excellence in design and engineering provides realistic and transparent sound quality.Have you thought about a raspberry pi running volumio or moode. I use volumio and have mine connected to a topping dac by usb and then into my amplifier. Sounds amazing for little money. |I cant keep up. Still have my original dx7, but why so many variations of dacs, headphone amps? How many does Topping now make and how do you differentiate between the products? I've supplied my DAC with 5 volts of 'dirty' USB power, switched mode power, linear power and, the cleanest, D.C. power from a battery. E50 auto On/Off function, it will automatically turn on and set to the input which the signal is valid. And when the signal of E50's selection is not valid for 1 minute, E50 will turn off automatically. |Headphones: Sennheiser HD660S2 | HIFIMAN Sundara | AirPods Pro 2 | Audio Technica ATH-M50X | AKG K371 | Sennheiser HD380 Pro
