About this deal

Hi. This game is currently not ready for playing, it's in beta testing right now, we'll announce when it's ready. With the increase in the demand for gin in recent years, the number of micro-distilleries has exploded in North America. Small batch, artisanal gins are taking their place on shelves besidelarge established brands such as Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray. This thirst for craft gin is alive and well here in Canada, where a small number of craft distillers are producing world-class spirits. These local distillers are blessed with an outstanding mix of natural resources like abundant grain, pure water sources and local botanicals. The best of these locally-produced gins are beginning to gain international recognition and will only continue to improve from here. Empress 1908 Gin is rather by the numbers as far as palate goes. The citrus is big and dominant, and for that reason I think it leans contemporary. Because cards are scored for the player who melded them, any cards that are melded, whether a new combination or an addition to a combination that is already on the table, are placed in front of the person who melded them, and not on the combination they are added to if that belongs to another player. A wild card can be taken from a run in exchange for the natural card it represents, and that natural card is placed in front of and scores for the player making the exchange. A wild card can be taken from a set of equal cards in exchange for a natural card of the same rank. If a set consisting entirely of wild cards is melded, no cards can be taken from it. I mixed it up in a Negroni, and you get a nice bit of juniper and bitterness here, but the finish is slightly different than expected: a bit of tart berry and floral notes come out at the end. Quite surprising as I found those notes to be very understate neat, but quite interesting that a complex drink like the Negroni would bring them out.

Seven cards each are dealt as usual plus an eighth card to the person to dealer's left, who plays first. Empress 1908 is a slightly contemporary style gin with a heady citrus, juniper and coriander accord that takes copious cues from gin’s 300 year history.Do you know 6dogs blue gin? Its a ZA gin that also uses pea blossoms. I havent yet tried Empress but your profile piqued my interest. I do enthusiastically recommend 6 dogs. For me the botanicals in 6 dogs produce an elixir like effect. The flavor notes are a pleasure both neat and with tonic. South Africa produces an impressive variety of botanically infused gins. Fynbos plants supply a unique local inspiration for flavoring these crafty distilates. I am grateful to the many people who have sent descriptions of different versions this game. They include Jennifer Gregorio, John Greer, Michael Jones, Shayne Lewis, Dave McManus, Rammy Meyerowitz, William Mihalic and Michael Oxner. The nose is slightly sweet, a hint of lemon zest but a good deal of juniper. A hint of alcohol as well. Smells quite classic in character. Despite the color, don’t come to Empress 1908 Gin expecting something floral or violet-flavored. This is a mixing gin with a strong emphasis on showmanship. Some play that it is possible to go out at your first turn, but in that case any players who have not had a turn get one opportunity to reduce their hand value by putting down any melds they can make from the cards they were dealt, including playing on previous players' melds.

The game begins and ends with Ace wild. Aces used in a run can be either low cards (A-2-3) or high cards (Q-K-A) but not both at once (K-A-2 of a suit is not a valid run).

Rematch?

Okay, there’s a few of them here. So bare with me on this whirlwind tour. Oh Cloudberry, obsession is they name! I’ve wanted to try fresh versions of this berry for the years since I’ve heard of it. This tart berry grows in only very small quantities in its native range. Though hard to find, it has been used in many northern peoples’ food cultures. Many native northerners made spirits from them, but its most commonly found in jellies and jams. Also known as the “Bakeapple.” Since, then, the discovery team has spent more than a week quietly gathering images of the vessel and comparing them with the Terror’s 19th century builders’ plans, which match key elements of the sunken vessel. If true, that sets up the tantalising possibility that British sailors re-manned the vessel after she was abandoned at the top of Victoria Strait in a desperate attempt to escape south. It is never compulsory for a player to lay down cards just because they are able to. It is legitimate to keep playable cards or even entire melds in your hand, and it is sometimes good tactics to do so. Of course cards held in this way will count for penalty points as usual if some other player goes out. Scoring

That complexity, and wedded smoothness, meant that we enjoyed Ungava Gin over ice. It really is quite a mouthful of flavour, and that makes it a good gin to have neat (like these ones, if that’s your thing).I also wouldn’t mind knowing other similar (better?) options. I’m in North Carolina in the US. I appreciate how well you describe the taste. Thanks!

Line bonus or box bonus: This bonus is added at the end of the game, and adds 25 points for each hand won during the game. or C6 C7 C8 C9 C10. Aces are always low, never high, and runs can't wrap around, so Q,K,A,2 would not be a legal run. The "Auto-Press" is a further development in which the player with the highest hand value after play of the first hand in a game with 4 or more players automatically takes a score 50 points above the next highest player to put "The Press" on. If two or more players tie for the high score after the first hand, they all go to the new value. Game bonus: After a player has reached 100 points he gets a special game bonus, 100 points, added to his overall score. I find this beautiful gin tastes so different depending on how it’s served. I made one the other night with lots of ice, Fevertree plain tonic (light) and a few chunks of well muddled, juicy lime, and it was sublime. It tasted like ripe, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice from Florida. I think a lot of gin snobs like to hate this one. It is terrible mixed with anything sweet though. It’s really nice with an olive too. Don’t give up on this gin based on this review! It’s smooth and delicious – and I’ve tried lots of great gins! I wish the reviewer would try it again and reconsider. Our Plymouth Gin review finds a great, honest gin that pairs well with tonic and a slice of lemon. We can see why this gin…
