About this deal

This book is just as funny and heartfelt from start to finish and for any woman or man who wonders how the hell she got here and why life isn't quite how she imagined it was going to be... Living in London, Nell is content with her life. She enjoys her job writing obituaries, has a strong circle of friends (including the ultimate frenemy). Yet people, especially her parents are worried that she hasn't married, had children, is not successful. Nell is apparently a "Forty-Something F**k Up". This book was a breath of fresh air especially if you are having a bad few days this is a book that will have you in giggles - But hopefully not in public transport like I was!!! oops!!!!! Told with laugh out loud humor and the perfect wit Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up is the perfect book for any woman (or man) whether young or old that feels like she isn’t enough or in the right place in her life. However, I am not sure what I think about this book. It for sure gives you with it promises in the title: more confessions. This novel simply follows Nell and her opinions about life. Some are brilliant, some are not, I agree with some, with some I don't agree... But altogether, for me, the plot was not strong and felt mixed up. On the other hand, there are many, many points that resonated with me and there are for sure many, many women out there with same thoughts and feeling.

Synopsis (It's a fiction book, so it helps…from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.) It’s rare for any book to actually make me laugh out loud like this one did (more than once) and for a book to resonate on so many levels with me. Overall this is funny and heart-warming. I did like it even though there is a certain amount of cheese! As Nell's story unfolds there is lots of laughter, lots of tears, life throws many curved balls when you are a childless, unmarried forty year old with a boyfriend who has a spreadsheet for everything, parents who have accepted " Alexa" as a family member, an eighty year old best friend who has more "get up and go" than you have ever had and who wears dungarees and silver plimsoles, three best friends with husbands and children who are all living the dream............or are they ? a glamorous old friend who re emerges, an old friend who can do "put downs" in the most sophisticated way, an old friend who also flirts with your boyfriend. More Confessions is set 18 months after the end of the first book and follows Nell's journey as she and the rest of the UK navigate the return to normal after Covid. Having spent a large amount of her time alone in her flat, she's looking forward to being able to get out and about again with her boyfriend, Edward, and her friends. Finally they can gather at each other's houses with no restrictions, they can go to the pub and enjoy a drink and they can even have weddings again!A funny, feisty tale about the highs and the oh-so-lows of having to start over in your forties with a smart, sassy character at its heart who you'll be cheering on from start to finish. * Mike Gayle * The book features an array of wonderful friendships. From cross generational, to long distance, to the support you find when someone has seen you at your best, and your lowest, over many years.

It was with a sense of glee that I noted Alexandra Potter was releasing a follow up to her 2021 best-selling novel, "Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up". I read the first book out of curiosity due to the title - I was approaching the big 40 and discovering that apparently there are life-goals that we are supposed to achieve. I must have missed those particularly lessons at school. And so, refreshingly, has our heroine Nell. The inspiration for NOT DEAD YET, ABC’s “Most Watched Comedy Debut in More Than Four Years” ( Deadline) Funny but layered, light-hearted but surprisingly deep, this is a perfect and inspiring new year read' - RedI wish this was more focused on the podcasts and what she actually says on them; we are told that she's getting these insane amount of followers but it's barely mentioned apart from as an anecdote and just doesn't feel well thought out. The rivalry between her and Annabel again just felt so cliche and so unnecessary in this book. This book did make me laugh!! It made me realise life is not always perfect and you have to make the most of it!! It was nice to take my mind off the Corona Virus. Výborné sú aj pasáže kde sa rozoberá postavenie ženy a tlak spoločnosti na to, aby žena plnila rolu matky lebo to by mala byť jej “najvyššia ašpirácia”. Je zaujímavé všimnúť si takéto pasáže v knihe, kde to proste nečakám :) After reading Alexandra's first book called Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up i just had to read the second book in this brilliant V rámci úprimnosti by som sa mala k čomusi priznať. Hoci po všetkých týchto veciach túžim, moje druhé ja sa ich desí. Mám na mysli tú časť mojej osobnosti, čo sa v denníkoch zaprisahávala, že nikdy neskončí ako moji rodičia. Čítala tajne pod perinou knihy, svietiac si baterkou, a snívala o vášnivých romanciach a cestovaní do ďalekých krajín. Bola odhodlaná žiť neobyčajne, dobrodružne, slobodne, vzrušujúco, inak…”

In this hilarious, un-put-downable follow-up to the bestselling Confessions of a Forty-Something F ## k Up , now the basis for the major TV series, Not Dead Yet , there are laugh-out-loud lessons to be learned, truths to be told, adventures to go on and joys to discover. Nell was broke and house hunting, ending up renting in a shared situation with Edward, who rented in the city during the week, and went home to the suburbs to his family on the weekend. This suited Nell as he was stuffy and had too many rules, aka, one square of toilet paper per bathroom visit and a caveat not to touch the thermostat. Eeek! On the plus side to this was the lovely Arthur the dog, who Nell looked after. They became firm friends. This is what we all want and this is what I try to do when my mum friends talk to me about their problems. I don’t give advice (what would I know about raising a child?), I don’t act as if it’s At its heart, it is a love story, but it has many layers. There's romantic love for current partners, past partners, and lost partners, love for your friends, love for your children, love for strangers, and love for yourself. A continuation of book #1, reminding us that there is never really a happy ever after and life always comes with it's up and downs (and it's f###k ups). But then something happened that no one expected, turning the world upside down in a way no one could have ever imagined. Eighteen months on, life is finally returning to normal! But what is normal anymore? Because sometimes happiness isn't a choice. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can't find joy. Which is why I've decided to stop beating myself up by desperately seeking happiness and give myself the permission to feel exactly how I feel, when I feel it. In fact, maybe, it's not happiness we should be looking for after all - but acceptance.” It’s probably no surprise (if anyone’s still with me :)) that I found the ending disturbing and symbolic. Yes I know it’s supposed to be funny and tongue in cheek, but seriously? Nell is a forty-something peri-menopausal Bridget Jones type character who is enjoying her own space in her first home and has an good job. One thing I’ve learned through this bloody awful time is that grief isn’t linear. You can be doing all right, then it will suddenly come out of nowhere. It’s the silly little things that remind you .”
