About this deal

In the early 18th century, Johann Maria Farina (1685–1766), an Italian living in Cologne, Germany, created a fragrance. He named it Eau de Cologne ("water from Cologne") after his new home. Over the next century, the fragrance became increasingly popular. Fenaroli, Giovanni; Maggesi, L. (1960). "Acqua di Colonia". Rivista italiana essenze, profumi, piante offizinali, olii vegetali, saponi (in Italian). 42. Tati: The timing of this review is perfect as I have a large bottle on its way right now! In Austria my mother used this as an aid for headaches, applying it at the temples.

Initially - WOW this is a BRISK bergamot bomb! I love the opening here, and the petitgrain shines through as well. It's woody, cooling, almost a snappy wood, and super refreshing. It doesn't smell dated at all, it just smells natural and pleasant. This smells super similar to the Atelier Cologne Lemon Island. Not exact but I just tested my theory on my husband and he agreed. The 4711 is more herbal, like for me the basil really shines. The Lemon Island is more warm vanilla. Am I crazy or does anyone else draw this comparison! Sabetay, Sébastien (1960). Les Eaux de Cologne Parfumée. Sta. Maria Maggiore Symposium (in French). Due to the poor performance, and due to the fact that there are better citrus fragrances and colognes out there, I can't give 4711 Cologne a 10/10. For me is interesting that some reviewers can smell some of the other notes wrongly mentioned by Fragrantica.Botanical Perfume Eau de Cologne Vetiver Roots Citrus Personalized Gifts Men's Grooming all Natural The closest cousin to 4711 is Guerlain's Eau de Cologne Imperiale, composed some seven decades later, and favoured by the French aristocracy. The differences are subtle; 4711 is lighter and more floral, while Imperiale is richer and more herbal, thanks to good doses of rosemary and verbena. Performance is roughly comparable, although 4711 has much more modest sillage. Still, it's perceptible as a skin scent more than a couple of hours in.

Despite the fact that reapplying is extremely pleasant and I think it will be a very refreshing gesture for the summer, I don't think I'll replace it when it's finished because I've been finding other options with better performance. Or maybe yes... Maybe this classic should always remain in any collection... In any case, if you have the opportunity to travel to Cologne (Köln), don't hesitate to visit the brand's stores and get this olfactory souvenir, that's how entered my collection for the first time.|Make-up and skincare services, BrowBar benefit, gifting and personalisation workshop, Sephora offers you a whole range of services to come and discover in store Original Eau de Cologne," a fragrant symphony born in 1792, captures the essence of Mediterranean respite on the hottest of days. Notes of lemon, bergamot, and orange weave a tale of citrus kissed by sunbeams. Lavender and rosemary dance in the midday breeze, a soothing rhythm beneath the relentless sun. Neroli and petitgrain provide a gentle foundation, an homage to the fragrant orchards that line the coast. When sprayed underneath and on clothes I get slightly longer wear and this delicious airy effect which I look for in colognes. The basic construction of this cologne is where it's beauty lies. It doesn't scream, it is subdued and sultry and just refreshing. It leaves my skin smelling naturally clean. No acidic-pee-like drydown which I get from some concentrated EDCs. In a nutshell this smells like a mix between Irish spring and the white dove bar of soap !! Really realxing and heavenly smell if I must say. I also find this to be perfectly unisex as it doesn’t lean feminine or masculine and for being the oldest cologne out there I didn’t expect this to smell as modern.

Nikki: What a coincidence! I was just in Cologne at the Dome and the 4711 store! It is wonderful, truly great, to be close to a medieval church, have this amazing 4711 scenting the air, and drink Frueh Koelsch beer which is a light version of beer and very refreshing. Such a beautiful city! When I was a little kid I vividly remember a TV ad that aired every summer. The hook-line & theme, 4711: "It's as Cold as Ice".

On 20 October 1794, Senator Gottfried von Gall noted in his diary that the numbering and the written documentation of the houses which started eight days earlier was being continued. [3] Victoria: I was laughing over your comment earlier and then later in the day came across some old press release also claiming to recreate “Napoleon’s cologne” formula. This is not meant for a beautiful cool place like Koln to be honest!. You need creepy and scary summers to enjoy this.
