Suction Level Our favorite feature is the silicone cushions that come with the breast shields. We loved using these and wished that every breast pump had them. Although not entirely discreet, the Medela Harmony can easily be hidden under a nursing cover. You can use it while breastfeeding or in between feeding sessions to boost your milk supply. We especially liked that it gave us the freedom to pump without being tethered to an outlet and that it has a closed system to prevent spills. Like our mum testers, you will have your own individual needs when choosing a breast pump. However, there are some things you may want to consider when making your choice: Setting up this breast pump is fairly simple when following along the assembly instructions included. The instructions are super clear and each side only has three parts to assemble and clean. We actually thought there’d be more parts to it, and were pleasantly surprised at how streamlined the entire process is. Once everything is put together, you snap the breast shield onto the cups and once you hear the resounding snap sound you know it’s secure and ready to use. After, connect the tubing to the tops of the cups and the other end to the motor unit and voila!There's one main difference between open and closed system pumps and that is that one has a barrier and the other doesn't. Even on the lowest level, the S9 Plus' suction was quite strong, especially when plugged into the wall. Unlike other pumps, it starts in an expression or letdown mode (as opposed to a massage or stimulation mode), but there are multiple massage modes to choose from should you wish to start in a gentler setting. We also appreciate its transparent flanges, as they made it easy to confirm that milk was being expressed. The second part of learning how to use your pump is learning how to clean it. Some pumps have more parts than others, making them more time-consuming to clean. Overall, we recommend this pump because it’s portable, has strong suction, and costs much less than other wearable or portable pumps. We also appreciate its collection of accessories, which were helpful in determining our flange size and adjusting our bra to accommodate this pump. Spectra Synergy Gold Breast Pump: Our lactation consultant recommended this pump to us, and we found it to be solid and dependable. However, the bottle-to-flange size ratio is uneven, which causes them to tip as you collect more milk. It’s also quite large and doesn’t come with a carrying case, rendering it challenging to transport.

When using a manual pump, you place the breast cup over your breast and squeeze the handle to extract the milk, which collects in a storage container or bottle. Most mums who use a manual breast pump feel they have more control. Manual breast pumps tend to cheaper and be easier to use. A few caveats to using this breast pump are that it may be best to use a different pumping bottle to measure the milk and that the motor may freeze. The measurements on the collection cups are not easy for us to see either. As far as the motor, you have a one year warranty available for it so you can easily get it replaced if need be. If the motor does freeze you can reset it by holding on the on/off button for about ten seconds. It should work again after that.This pump has two motors and the cool thing about it is that you can get the MAX suction levels on both sides! This pump measured 294 mmHg. The company claims 270 mmHg. So this was another pump that I was able to get a higher suction reading than the company claimed, and let me say it again, you can get that suction on both sides at that same time!! This is really unique.
