It took too long to get me to shake my initial impression of the ego centrism of Dr. Weiss. I'm certain he is a nice guy, a competent doctor, and a compassion human being. But, as I stated in our discussion while I was reading, my interpretation is that the book feels more about him than anything else. Take the title for example, it starts, "The True Story of a Prominent Psychiatrist...", I'm sure he is but I didn't feel it needed to be called out. His questions were leading and he seemed more curious about whether he was there in her past life than anything else. Some of the questions he asks are inane (e.g. after asking about how her life was (in previous life), he finds out she was poor and lost her son. Dr. Weiss asks, "Do you miss him?"). If a part of humankind is eternal, and there is much evidence and history to think so, then why are we doing such bad things to ourselves? Why do we step on and over others for our personal gain’ when actually we’re flunking the lesson? We all seem to be going to the same place ultimately, albeit at different speeds. Or at least, prove that the patient really existed? How are we to know that this wasn’t simply a work of fiction? It’s impossible to tell from what has been written. It could have all been made up, only first names have been used. Dr Weiss made no attempts to verify the astounding claims made by his patient, Catherine.

There is lot to question thats very true even though I want to believe. What is my main concern why noone questions the time/era it was written - I mean late eighties - why something mysterious was happening only or mainly in those years 50' 60' 70' 80' there is not much happening after year 1990 - there is few but not as many as in those years and alsoPeople do love such stories and even I do. We all want to believe and often forgive or overlook small or big details ...

Though Weiss, like many scientists, is a natural skeptic, his experience with this patient convinced him that reincarnation is real, human souls are eternal, and there are spiritual “Masters” providing help and guidance from beyond the veil. There is no way of telling whether the entire book is a complete work of fiction, and if it is, then of course it would be easy for Dr Weiss to make up anything to try and impress the gullible reader. After all, the existence of Catherine is not proven. She could be a person made up. We don’t know her full name. Why has she not come forward to confirm what Dr Weiss has written about her? I would always argue that since this book has been around for a good long time and since we are yet to discover all that much compelling evidence about reincarnation, there's probably a snag somewhere.
