About this deal

The map element is great for teaching children a sense of scale but even more brilliant is how the map theme is tied in with Martha’s dreams for her future. No matter how small Martha may be and no matter how little room she takes up in the universe or Earth or city, she has the potential to go to big places and to achieve very big things! She is also an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator, who is absolutely passionate about writing, making things up and daydreaming. Among her many brilliant picture books is Don’t Dip Your Chips in Your Drink, Kate, written by Caryl Hart, which won Highly Commended in the 2010 Sheffield Children’s Book Award, Picture Book Category. I mean this in the best possible way and with absolutely no disrespect to Leigh Hodgkinson. It's actually really challenging for a grown-up to convincingly make art that looks like it was created by a child. Leigh has mastered this and it's a huge part of this story's appeal. It will encourage readers to get creative and make their own maps - and their own books too. This book would be a great addition to any school library or reading corner... It could be used to support KS1 topics in geography and maths, such as local area mapping, towns and cities, geographical scale, and as a general introduction to map work. A really fun book for young readers." - Books for Topics

All in all, I am so happy I got the chance to read this book and add it to my collection! I would recommend this to all~ Martha's map is full of fun details and true facts that are perfect for curious minds. The book radiates a contagious energy and excitement for the wonders of the universe." - BookTrust A wonderfully conceived and executed picture book celebrating the excitement and the possibilities that lie ahead of young lives." - ACHUKA Martha’s maps will take you on an enchanting journey through her world, starting from outer space and zooming in, map by map, to our planet, Martha’s neighbourhood, and beyond. Martha Maps it Out is a glorious picturebook. Just like Martha, it has limitless potential for the classroom... Martha is a warm and welcoming guide with her cheery smile and very relatable and reliable guide. This is an essential picturebook which should be in every Key Stage One classroom. Highly recommended." - Sam Keeley, Just Imagine Een ideaal boek dat past bij onderbouwthema's als huizen, wonen, ruimte en ook zeker rekenonderdelen bevat. Martha's maps will take you on an enchanting journey through her world, starting from outer space and zooming in, map by map, to our planet, Martha's neighbourhood, and beyond.

Here's a round-up of new children's books from the last year (2023), which we think any child aged 4 to 5 will love. A charming picture book suggesting ten practical ways to help the planet. A positive and simple introduction to the need for conservation for the very young.None of the main characters are white and Martha's friends and neighbours are of a variety of different ethnicities while people in wheelchairs are represented too. Gan gyfuno labeli ffeithiol â manylion difyr yn benodol i sefyllfa Martha ei hun, mae hwn yn llyfr sy'n cynnig dysgu heb fod yn drwm a neges bositif am freuddwydio'n fawr. Mae'r darluniau hyfryd gweadog a phatrymog yn cyd-fynd yn berffaith ag optimistiaeth a chreadigrwydd Martha.

Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc.)?Leigh is an award-winning animator and worked as art director on the BAFTA-award winning animated series, Charlie and Lola. Martha’s maps will take you on an enchanting journey through her world, starting from outer space and zooming in, map by map, to our planet, Martha’s neighbourhood, and beyond, to her dreams of a future where ANYTHING is possible.
