About this deal

Thanks for the comment, Mori. Yes, I’ve heard similar sentiments from others who’ve used both the foam and the liquid – that the liquid may work a bit better but that it yields more undesirable side effects. Of course, plenty of people use the liquid without issue as well. Topical drugs, such as corticosteroids, tretinoin, dithranol or petrolatum, which alter the stratum corneum barrier, could result in increased absorption of minoxidil if applied concurrently. Although it has not been demonstrated clinically, there exists the theoretical possibility of absorbed minoxidil potentiating orthostatic hypotension caused by peripheral vasodilators.

Animal reproduction toxicity studies in rats and rabbits have shown signs of maternal toxicity and a risk to the foetus at exposure levels that are very high compared to those, intended for human exposure. A low, albeit remote, risk of foetal harm is possible in humans. The patient should stop using this product and see a doctor if hypotension is detected or if the patient is experiencing chest pain, rapid heartbeat, faintness or dizziness, sudden unexplained weight gain, swollen hands or feet or persistent redness or irritation of the scalp, or other unexpected new symptoms occur (see section 4.8). Topical minoxidil is only indicated for the treatment of alopecia androgenetica and should not be used in other types of hair loss for example when there is no family history of hair loss, hair loss is sudden and/or patchy, hair loss is due to childbirth, or the reason for hair loss is unknown. The half-life of topical minoxidil averaged 22 hours, compared to 1.49 hours for the oral formulation. Minoxidil and its metabolites are excreted almost entirely in the urine (97%), with a very minor degree of elimination via the faeces (3%). Because of the concentration of minoxidil in Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution, accidental ingestion has the potential of producing systemic effects related to the pharmacological action of the drug (2 ml of Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution contains 100 mg minoxidil; the maximum recommended adult dose for oral minoxidil administration in the treatment of hypertension). Signs and symptoms of minoxidil overdosage would primarily be cardiovascular effects associated with sodium and water retention. Tachycardia, hypotension, dizziness and lethargy can also occur. Animal reproduction toxicity studies in rats and rabbits have shown signs of maternal toxicity and a risk to the foetus at exposure levels that are very high compared to those, intended for human exposure. There is a risk of foetal harm in humans. The failure to detect evidence of systemic effects during treatment with Regaine Foam reflects the poor absorption of topically applied minoxidil from normal intact skin. Systemic absorption of minoxidil from topically applied solution ranges between 1% and 2% of the total applied dose.

Any other skin problems, an irritation, or a sunburn on the scalp—These conditions may cause too much topical minoxidil to be absorbed into the body and may increase the chance of side effects. Before using Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution, the user should determine that the scalp is normal and healthy. Topical minoxidil should not be applied to inflamed, infected, irritated or painful scalp skin (see section 4.3).Pump spray applicator: this is useful for large areas. Aim the pump at the centre of the bald area, press once and spread with fingertips over the entire bald area. Repeat for a total of 6 times to apply a dose of 1 ml. Avoid breathing spray mist. Users should be aware that, whilst extensive use of Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution has not revealed evidence that sufficient minoxidil is absorbed to have systemic effects, greater absorption because of misuse, individual variability, unusual sensitivity or decreased integrity of the epidermal barrier caused by inflammation or disease processes in the skin (e.g. excoriations of the scalp, or scalp psoriasis) could lead, at least theoretically, to systemic effects.

It may take twice daily applications for 2 months or more before evidence of hair growth can be expected. Primary efficacy criterion was assessed by the mean change in non-vellus hair count in a 1.0 cm 2 reference area of affected scalp with baseline, as measured by macrophotography at Week 24.

4. Aesthetics/Utility

The patient should stop using Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution and see a doctor if hypotension is detected or if the patient is experiencing chest pain, rapid heart beat, faintness or dizziness, sudden unexplained weight gain, swollen hands or feet or persistent redness or irritation of the scalp or other unexpected new symptoms occur (see section 4.8).. The failure to detect evidence of systemic effects during treatment with Regaine solution reflects the poor absorption of topically applied minoxidil from normal intact skin. Systemic absorption of minoxidil from topically applied solution ranges between 1% and 2% of the total applied dose. Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine. Other Interactions I actually prefer the liquid overall, mainly because it’s cheaper and easy enough to apply for me, but I often keep a bottle of the foam on hand because it’s a far better styling product, in my opinion. Minoxidil is the most effective hair loss treatment for women and the second most effective hair loss treatment for men, after finasteride. Finasteride is a tablet taken every day to combat male pattern baldness, and is sometimes branded in the UK as Propecia. However it must not be taken by women. In one study, Propecia was shown to be effective at halting hair loss and promoting regrowth in 90% of men who used it. Learn more about Finasteride (Propecia) here.

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Studies in animals have shown a risk to the foetus at exposure levels that are very high compared to those intended for human exposure. There is potentially a risk of foetal harm in humans (see section 5.3).

Cardiac effects of minoxidil in dogs are species-specific in terms of the low doses that cause profound haemodynamic effects and associated changes in the heart. Available data indicate that similar cardiac effects do not occur in humans treated topically or orally with minoxidil. The liquid though is awful for styling your hair. It’s super oily, and you actually look more bald when you apply it. Ultimately, choosing which minoxidil you use is analogous to choosing your preferred cola. Okay, maybe that’s a bad analogy because everyone prefers Coke over Pepsi. Regaine for Men Extra Strength Scalp Solution 5% w/v Cutaneous Solution is for external use only. Do not apply to areas of the body other than the scalp If you still have a lot of hair, or longer hair, you may find it difficult to reach your problem areas while using minoxidil foam. And if that’s the case, the liquid may be a better option for you. 4. Aesthetics/Utility Winner – Minoxidil Foam
