Lee, Jan. "Review: Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens". The Oxford Times. The Oxford Times . Retrieved 16 January 2018. The Case of the Missing Treasure: [ rating from when already read upon publication prior to the release of death in the spotlight] 4.25* - it's a nice change reading from daisy's perspective but i prefer hazel's lol While I figured out the killer, I didn’t know why. The highlight of the book for me was everything that came after, MASTERFULLY done!! Murder Most Unladylike’s central murder mystery is not only skilfully plotted but also built on incidental threads that when put together provide an interesting picture that encompasses not only the actual mystery but also difficulties surrounding the two main characters’ friendship as well as wider gender, sexuality (two of the female teachers are in a relationship, one of them clearly bi) and race issues. Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are spending Christmas in Cambridge, but there isn't time to enjoy the snow as a gruesome accident occurs just two days before. Children will love all the twists and turns, plus the many authentic 1930s touches.

Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens | Waterstones

Murder Most Unladylike is a 2014 children's mystery novel by British-American author Robin Stevens. It follows two schoolgirls in 1930s England solving their first murder mystery and is the first book in the 'Murder Most Unladylike' series. There are six different stories here, set at different times in Hazel and Daisy's investigative careers, and while the book technically slots in at 6.5 and 8.5 in the series time frame, I think it is the perfect place to start if you want to get a taste for the style and content. This story is set in 1934. How would it be different if it were set in the present day? How would the characters' lives be different? What about cultural attitudes? When Hazel discovers Science Mistress Miss Bell lying dead in the Gym, she thinks it must have been a terrible accident - but when she and Daisy return a few moments later, the body has completely disappeared. The girls realise a murder must have taken place, and soon discover that there's more than one person at Deepdean with a motive. Determined to get to the bottom of the crime, Hazel and Daisy put their detective skills to the test - but can they uncover the truth before the killer strikes again?

I find that I don’t want my own daughter to read this book. At age ten, she is an advanced reader in some senses, but not yet a critical reader who can understand the subtext of what she reads. And I don’t want her first literary exposures to sexism, racism, or adult erotic love to be so difficult to understand and full of implicit biases. She might not “get it” yet, but she will be drinking it in anyway- learning what society thinks is beautiful, what’s laughable, what’s cool (playing dumb), and what’s embarrassing (appearing to be smarter). Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments Schoolgirl detectives Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are at Daisy's home, Fallingford, for the holidays. i don't really have much to say about this like i did for Death Sets Sail - i think that this was more a bridge into the new series than a commemoration of what had already happened in the murder most unladylike series, but the short stories were still fun and the author's notes at the end were :,)))

Determined to get to the bottom of the crime before the killer strikes again Hazel and Daisy must hunt for evidence, spy on their suspects and use all the cunning and intuition they can muster. But will they succeed? And can their friendship stand the test? Robin was born in California and grew up in an Oxford college, across the road from the house where Alice in Wonderland lived. She has been making up stories all her life. Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are in Egypt, taking a cruise along the Nile. They are hoping to see some ancient temples and a mummy or two; what they get, instead, is murder.

About Robin Stevens

But when they arrive they discover something they didn't expect: there's a new member of the Wong family.

Murder Most Unladylike | BookTrust

She spent her teenage years at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, reading a lot of murder mysteries and hoping that she’d get the chance to do some detecting herself (she didn’t). She then went to university, where she studied crime fiction, and then worked at a children's publisher. Did you know you can flag iffy content? HELP??? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I need to know what happened now there too lolThe protagonist of our story is a girl from Hong Kong at an English boarding school. Not only does she find the body of a dead teacher (which disappears!), but she has ti deal with discrimination and ignorance from her classmates, but from her best friend and president of their detective agency! The perfect book for all Detective Society fans and avid readers of the Murder Most Unladylike series. I loved the hints about where Daisy and Hazel will go after their last full-length murder mystery (not to mention their friends, George and Lavinia!!). And it was wonderful to meet May Wong again - with her fierce intelligence and strong personality, I'm glad she'll be one of the driving forces behind the series' next evolution. The third mystery in the bestselling Murder Most Unladylike series; just like the iconic Agatha Christie, Hazel and Daisy have boarded the Orient Express!
