It’s a good job, then, that the Panasonic TX-50EX750B has more to offer than a bizarrely low-tech height-adjustment function. But can it compete with the best televisions in its class? Colours are bright, but not particularly lush or vibrant, and details aren’t emphasised as they are on other sets. It’s just a less engaging and enticing image compared to the best in class. Compared to a cheaper TV – say, the Samsung UE50TU7020 – the Panasonic puts in a punchier performance with better colours and brighter, cleaner whites. If you’re looking at this TV and a cheaper one, then in terms of picture quality the TX-50HX600 is an upgrade. Colours here are natural and balanced, with skin tones now subtler and more realistic, and motion is once again excellent.

There’s a little more fuzz around edges than the very best can muster, but this is a clean, controlled image by SD standards. In the search for the best television, however, Panasonic is often overlooked - making them a particularly underrated brand, but don't let their underdog status fool you, they're quite brilliant. The best Panasonic TVs of 2023 at a glance:The CX680 is an Ultra HD 4K TV at a price point which makes it very affordable for the end user and at the same time adds in the latest must-have features. It has quad-core processing driving the FireFox operating system which runs Panasonic’s Smart TV and Home Screen 2.0 for 2015. There’s no HCX processor seen in Panasonic’s more advanced TVs. Instead, the HX600 has the brand’s 4K HDR Studio Colour image that shoots for a more realistic look to its pictures. Support for HDR extends to HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision HDR, the latter helping to refine the HX600’s HDR performance with supported content given the set’s limited brightness. For gamers there’s a bespoke Game Mode to reduce input lag for a faster gaming experience. However, there’s none of the more advanced features such as VRR needed for PS5 and Xbox Series X in case that’s of interest.
