About this deal

This book is fantastic, it has beautiful illustrations to inspire art learning and shares the story of the water cycle an i unique way, showing how water can be used and its importance. The real triumph of this book is in the almost otherworldly scenes depicted in its illustrations' - Just Imagine Centre This book could be used at the beginning of an infant science topic about the water cycle, where children could be encouraged to produce a story map of the water’s journey through the book. This could act as a springboard from which to learn more about the water cycle through an experiment (the ‘cloud in a jar’ experiment springs to mind).

This book is about the journey that water goes on. This would be an interesting text to use when teaching the water cycle or when discussing the needs of animals. It teaches children about the water cycle in a way that isn't simply spitting facts, it puts it into a real life context and how it affects different people in different locations which I found really lovely. A glorious non-fiction text that translates beautifully in the classroom. It's perfect for poetry inspiration, re-telling and learning about the water cycle.

Issac is playing in his favourite pool on the mountainside when it begins to rain. Upon emptying his little jar of water into the pool, he follows the journey of the water through streams, over waterfalls, along rivers and out into the vast open sea. Wondering where the little jar of water will go next, readers are taken on an epic journey of water. The story shows how we are all linked by water and provides a more emotional and real approach to the water cycle.

Isaac is playing in the pool on the side of his mountain. He empties his jar of water into the pool that flows into a stream down the side of the mountain as the rain falls. Isaac follows the flow of the water down a waterfall, into a river that flows across the country, through the city, into the ocean, across the world, into mist, forming as clouds and comind down as rain again. And, in a country far away, the mist that has evaporated from the sea turns into rain and provides water for a thirsty girl to drink. Your can choose from a few activities. One is your class identifying the adjectives, another is adding in the nine adjectives and the final one is adding in five adjectives. I think it is fantastic that you can enjoy reading this story just before bedtime, because of its astonishing artwork and poetic sentences. At the same time, this picture book is perfect to teach about the water cycle, both in the classroom or when homeschooling. A picture book that is educational, relaxing, and absolutely gorgeous? I am totally here for it! Also, since it has been 30°C degrees here (86°F), I have been longing for it to rain, who would have thought I would ever say that?

Each spread is stunning, hugely evocative of the world waiting to be explored, and reminding us how precious is each drop of water' - Reading Zone In this activity your class will read the passages and try to locate nouns, verbs and adjectives to help with their word class differentiation. The accompanying writing provides a narrative and adds human elements to the water’s journey, making links to the water cycle and physical geography.

Your class will add int he words to complete the sentences and look for simpler synonyms for the vocabulary chosen for this KS1 activity. I enjoyed the book very much. My favourite part of it was when he followed the river to the sea and met all the animals and discovered new parts of the world.

Rhythm of the Rain – Books For Keeps The Rhythm of the Rain – Books For Keeps

The first time I saw images from picture book The Rhythm of the Rain I was so completely entranced by them that I just had to request this book to review. Written and illustrated by Grahame Baker-Smith and published by Templar Publishing, this is one of the most magical picture books I’ve ever seen. Non-fiction books take many forms from the overtly factual information books, to a more subtle “fun” form. And without doubt there is a place for all forms, I think any way we can get non-fiction books out there, the better. The Rhythm of the Rain take non-fiction to another level, by injecting heart and emotion and scale into a very science and nature based theme and it really works so beautifully. During my stint as a teacher, I would have loved to have something like this to support my teaching. But, you know, non-fiction, education value aside, this book is just wonderful. beautiful and astounding to look at.Grahame Baker-Smith is a huge talent in picture book illustration, and his images of the natural world here are deep, vibrant and painterly, which will absorb slightly older picture book readers in their watery depths.' - Book Trust This book is something I used in a guided reading session on my placement. I used this as an alternative text focus and really enjoyed reading a specific extract from the text to the children and asking them to make inferences about the text. Due to reading this small extract I was determined to read this book for myself. And I’m very glad I did! The Rhythm of the Rain by Grahame Baker-Smith is a fabulous book to help teach KS2 children about the water cycle, rivers and streams. All the drawings are so great. I love the story because it tells us about the tiny bit of water and its journey from small to big oceans. Our servers are getting hit pretty hard right now.
