Billy discovers that someone bought the old candy store...and that someone happens to be a giraffe, a pelican and a monkey. The book is called The Giraffe, The Pelly, and Me. It was about a boy called Billy and a window cleaning service. Children love Roald Dahl’s books, because they make fantastical settings and characters so easy to believe in. Now you can absorb your classes even further into Roald Dahl’s wonderful world with this fun activity. These Roald Dahl ‘The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me’ worksheets are ideal for supporting your teaching on this story and helping children to understand the text. Brilliant yet again by Dahl. You can read all of his children's books at all ages. They are so much fun and original. And those illustrations by Quentin Blake fabulous! Billy lives in a street near an abandoned building. The building used to house an old-fashioned sweets shop but is now converted into the home of the titular giraffe, pelican and monkey who open a window cleaning business. These lovely Roald Dahl Colouring Sheets provide you with a great activity to keep your classes calm while they have fun colouring in all their favourite Roald Dahl characters. Kudos, Mr. Dahl for all you have given us. You departed the world much too soon, but left a literary footprint that no one else will ever fill. Quentin Blake has been drawing ever since he can remember. He taught illustration for over twenty years at the Royal College of Art, of which he is an honorary professor. He has won many prizes, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, the Eleanor Farjeon Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal, and in 1999 he was appointed the first Children’s Laureate. In the 2013 New Year’s Honours List he was knighted for services to illustration. It is with some regret that I sit down to write this correspondence. I understand your reluctance to read voluminous missives so I will keep this missive as unchunky as my e-pen allows. The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me study guide contains a biography of Roald Dahl, literature essays, quiz questions, major themes, characters, and a full summary and analysis.

The giraffe, pelican and monkey set up a window cleaning company. Can you think of some other animals? What job might they be able to do? Could you write a story about this? The sign on the front of ‘The Grubber’ says ‘FOR SAIL’. ‘Sail’ and ‘Sale’ are examples of homophones. Can you think of any more?I like to start the year with some fluffy books where nothing can go wrong. Roald Dahl created such "safe spaces" for us and despite some suspenseful moments almost all of them have, we always get a happy ending. Look at the songs and rhymes in the story. Can you identify the rhyming words? Can you think of other words that rhyme with these? My students used this resource as an activity for reading comprehension, writing composition and grammar. Thank you for providing it.

MEET BILLY. A kid with a dream. He wants to turn an old wooden house into an incredible sweetshop full of treats! I have a bit of a soft spot for The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me because I vividly remember reading it as a child. I had the large picture book version and I read it all the time.

Curriculum

This book is a light and easy read with a simple storyline for children who are new to reading longer books with less pictures. This Roald Dahl book is a classic for me and I remember reading this as a child growing up. I really enjoyed the vivid imagery used throughout this novel with the Dahl style description and the snappy storyline made this book a lovely short story to read. Look at photos of giraffes / pelicans / monkeys and use these to help with your own drawings / paintings of them? (see Resources below). I really liked this story! The friendships are great and the duke is a weird eccentric old guy, which I love! Eccentric old people are the best! I’m think you may have got our Agency confused as there is no Darren or Cariller Cray working here!

Listen to the audiobook version of the story. Could you narrate and record a passage from the book using expression / accents / sound effects / music? even if you're roald dahl and your mind is capable of coming up with things like "boy in magic chocolate factory gets to live there forever" and "girl who reads a lot is also magic because of that." The Monkey, in both appearance and diet, bears a strong resemblance to Muggle-Wump, a monkey from two of Dahl's earlier books: The Enormous Crocodile and The Twits. My favourite character-Billy, I think it would be amazing to be able to build a sweet shop like he did.Things go smoothly when they get there until, while cleaning the bedroom windows of Henrietta the Duchess, the Giraffe and the Monkey spot a burglar attempting to steal the Duchess's jewels. The Pelican then flies in and catches the burglar, holding him prisoner in his beak despite the burglar's attempt to shoot his way out with his gun (this makes a hole in the Pelican's beak, but the Duke assures him that the chauffeur can patch it up). Soon the police arrive to arrest the burglar, whom the Chief of Police identifies as the "Cobra", one of the world's most dangerous cat burglars. even at that level of content creation, you're going to come up with giraffes and pellys sometimes. Roald Dahl was a British novelist, short story writer and screenwriter of Norwegian descent, who rose to prominence in the 1940's with works for both children and adults, and became one of the world's bestselling authors.
