The Lathums – From Nothing To A Little Bit More Review: The Lathums – From Nothing To A Little Bit More

Wolves, Warrington (6 February 2023). "Warrington Wolves - The Lathums to headline Super League season opener". Warrington Wolves . Retrieved 17 April 2023. The Wigan band released ‘From Nothing To A Little Bit More’ on March 3 via Island Records ( delayed from a planned February release), and they have officially reached the Number One slot today (March 10).Full of little touches and flourishes which showcase their maturity, ‘From Nothing To A Little Bit More’ emphatically proves that The Lathums are here to stay. AM: “A lot of the album is music for an individual—personal music—and we wanted something for everybody in the crowd to get behind, where everybody takes the song for themselves and the energy from everybody is just so good. We’re conscious about stuff like that now. We’re never selfish with it, we never wanted to keep it to ourselves. We always wanted to express it to people but now we understand that, at a show, it’s their time to have a laugh and have a jump around. You have to write a song that’s sat in that category.” Being thought-provoking within your music is hard these days, and being original is even more complex, but this act knows how to shape and craft organic music that doesn’t cater to repetitiveness. They also know how to balance sound and lyricism well. Since releasing their 2021 debut album How Beautiful Life Can Be, The Lathums have been handed gains and losses. The departure of bassist Johnny Cunliffe could have halted the momentum of a band riding the high of seeing its first album debut at #1 in the UK charts, but not only have Wigan’s likely lads been blessed with a shiny, new bassist – Matty “Bass Guitar” Murphy; that’s a really nerdy music joke – but also the spoils of variety. AM: “It’s like Lathums but in a ’90s hip-hop way. It was fun crafting it in the studio. It excited us, like, ‘What can we do now to make it better or make something strange? Where can we push these songs to?’”

AM: “This was a very fun song to record. There’s a lot of melodies, and I know Scott had a whale of a time on it.” In September 2021, the band released their debut album, How Beautiful Life Can Be, which featured remastered versions of previously released singles, alongside new songs. The record features the likes of “Sad Face Baby,” which captures a yearning to connect with others who feel lost, and “Turmoil,” the recent single that saw the band swap punky squall for tender balladry. In 2018, the band wrote their first song together, "Artificial Screens", which they would self-release, along with other singles that would be re-released and remastered later down the line. In April 2019, the band released their first official single, "Crying Out". [6] It was recorded by John Kettle and then later issued. Later on, the band released another single, "The Great Escape". This garnered the attention of Tim Burgess from the Charlatans. He invited the band to play a set at Kendal Calling. The Lathums: Wigan indie band score debut number one album". BBC News. As Moore, Scott Concepcion (guitars/piano), and Ryan Durrans (drums) stride into their emboldened early twenties together, artistic support and kinship has come from some unlikely, ‘pinch me’ quarters, including The Killers, with whom Moore sang onstage at shows in Vienna and Amsterdam, plus Tim Burgess, Paul Weller, Arctic Monkeys, and Louis Tomlinson. In June 2023 The Lathums made their debut on the Other Stage at Worthy Farm, Glastonbury Festival for a 45-minute set with the crowd getting bigger as each song was played. Say My Name’ is a more recent song and, like everything we seem to do, has profound personal meanings. It’s a conversation with someone who has gone, with them speaking to the person who is alive, saying the things that they want to hear. In April 2022, the band released Sad Face Baby, the last single to feature Johnny Cunliffe on bass before his departure in 2022. The band brought on Matty Murphy as a replacement, but was not officially dubbed as a member until January 2023. During the time of Cunliffe's absence, the band were a support act for The Killers. Moore got the chance to do a cover of How Beautiful Life Can Be with them on stage, with Alex on acoustic guitar and Brandon Flowers on co-lead vocals. [8] Having lived their rollercoaster ride to the top of the charts and main stages inside just two years, The Lathums state their intentions to supercharge their continued rise with the release of “Say My Name.” It’s the first, incendiary single to be lifted from their upcoming, second album: From Nothing To A Little Bit More, announced at the same time as the biggest UK Tour to date, including dates at Manchester’s Albert Hall and London’s iconic Roundhouse. I just bought this on vinyl. This album is terrible, and this is a stupid band. In no way am I overcome with a mix of awe and jealous rage every time I listen to this record, which is constantly. milkfixer go to albumAM: “This was a sweet little number me and Scott started when we were whippersnappers. We neglected it for a while, and it got pushed to the side. Then it presented itself again. There was a lot going on at the time that fitted a lot of the words—and the idea of being in a headspace all the way at the top and then all the way at the bottom and the different parts of a journey. It felt right, and obviously we were older and a bit more experienced, so it was easier to revisit the song and let it be itself.” You don’t understand the power that we hold together. It’s going to be the best ride ever! Another Official Number 1 album. We’re the people, we’re the real people, we’re the community. We’re going to take over this thing. Come on!” Alex has made no secret of his personal struggles which are evident throughout, but there is an overiding sense of optimism from a young man appreciating his gift and the people who have contributed to his band’s platform, all whilst he comes to terms with himself and grows as a person.
