Michael’s subsequent novels The Night Ferry and Shatter were both shortlisted for UK Crime Writers Association Steel Dagger in 2007 and 2008. Shatter was also shortlisted in the inaugural ITV3 Thriller Awards in the UK and for South Africa’s Boeke Prize. In August 2008 Shatter won the Ned Kelly award for Australia’s best crime novel. Bleed for Me, Michael’s sixth novel, Bleed for Me was shortlisted for the 2010 Ned Kelly Award. The Other Wife by Claire McGowan is a twisty domestic thriller with a cast full of unlikable characters. We see through the perspectives of 3 women: Nora, Suzi and Elle. We know Nora and Suzi are neighbors, but we are trying to guess how this separate woman, Elle, fits into the mix. Unfortunately, I guessed how the 3 women were all interconnected, which removed the element of surprise. But at the end, there were more twists that I didn't see coming, which kept me hooked to the story. I still would recommend this one! 4/5 stars.

And then there’s the whole false memory thing – which is something my mother’s called me out on a few times: when I’ve thought something happened or was a certain way, but it apparently wasn’t at all! Whether we misunderstand situations as kids or memories are tainted by other things I’m not sure… but it’s certainly a bit confronting to Joe. What an outstanding book!!! Narrated by Karen Cass makes my day!!! I love listening to her. This is one of my top ten psychological thrillers for '22! Claire McGowan you hit every goal for psychological thrillers. It kept me guessing throughout. Which character is connected to which character? The book is full of deceptions, lies, ghosting, gas-lighting, psychopaths, sociopaths, infidelity, manipulation and mysterious people. Throughout I found myself wondering which wife has been betrayed the most, and who has the more difficult journey ahead. The glimpses into their respective marriages shed a fascinating light on who Richard was and also suggest why he behaved as he did.

And who is the strange woman crying at William's bedside, covered in his blood - a friend, a mistress, a fantasist or a killer? One thing I really enjoyed the three different perspectives we got in this book and how we learned how they were all connected in some twisted way, joining up the dots and working out how exactly they were all connected was so much fun!

The Other Wife review: Michael Robotham and the father of all The Other Wife review: Michael Robotham and the father of all

Secrets are uncovered and lives put at risk as Joe tries to find out ‘whodunit’; but – just as interestingly – Robotham offers some great texture to this tale via stuff extraneous to that plot, particularly through Joe’s his younger daughter Emma, who’s still grappling with the death of her mother over a year earlier. If the premise sounds far-fetched, I recall the tale told to me by a British friend who discovered that, like the fictional William, her father had also managed a parallel life. Absent half the year "on business", he had established another family in Australia where my friend had a much younger half-brother who she had never met. As always, even Robotham's most extraordinary stories have their basis in the kinds of things people really do.For the first half of the book, the book was very disjointed; leaving readers clueless about the connection between the three female protagonists. The strangeness doesn’t end there. This woman is covered in William’s blood, and is claiming that she found him at the bottom of the stairs in their house. Can she be trusted? Is she really William’s wife – or the one who hurt him? Now maybe I'll start this review off with the only flaw I found in this book. It was way too long. This book could have been about half it's length if there was proper editing done. A lot of thoughts were repeated more then twice and the inner monologues were lengthy and repetitive. Granted that they added a certain depth to the women and the story, it was unnecessary in my opinion. I really enjoyed this book. It is not a thriller, nor a love story, not an urban fantasy or a ya coming of age. It is just a greatly written story about the wrong person to love and the possible consequences.

While I found all of the characters extremely annoying, I felt this book had promise, but the further I got into the story, the less I liked it and just wanted it to be over. a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t The Writers Directory 1980–82. Unfortunately, there is still always a risk of slight spoilers despite my best efforts. If you feel something in my review is a spoiler please let me know. Thank you. Kathleen Irene Paterka is a brilliant writer. Her use of the English language is brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, not only because of the storyline, but because Paterka told it so beautifully. a b Butt, Riaza (25 February 2004). "Pilcher's winning formula". One wife is looking for the woman that took everything away from her. The other is looking for the that finally made her happy. Neither really knows who they should be looking for. This story is about two women married to the same man. One married to him for 38 years and the other for 4 years. Unfortuntely neither of them are aware of his double life which is only realised as he is found dead in a motel room in seedy circumstances. Now two women are in distress and disbelief. Author Kathleen Irene Paterka weaves an intriguing story told in the alternating point of view of Eleanor Anderson and Claire Anderson, as they deal with the loss of their husband Richard, and how they find out about each other and deal with their loss, betrayal, and the difficulties of moving forward with their lives after the trauma caused by the man that they both loved. This was a pretty great thriller! While the relationship between the three main characters was fairly obvious to me from pretty early on, I still enjoyed the drama and suspense of it all and all the twists and turns! I’m not sure why I’d become a bit jaded with Joe but this book was a revelation on a number of levels. Firstly, I also didn’t know he was from a super-rich family. I’d also not remembered reading about his father before, but of course it could have been something I’ve forgotten as I’ve a memory like a sieve! a b c d "Rosamunde Pilcher, author of The Shell Seekers, dies at 94".
