As per usual things don’t quite go according to plan… If only Tom could follow his own TOP tips for being Top of the Class! 1. Stay awake in lessons (it helps.) 2. Don’t draw HILARIOUS pictures of your teachers. 3. AVOID the class bully to stay out of trouble. 4. Don’t let Mum and Dad write ANYTHING in your school planner. . Don’t let your grumpy sister Delia BOSS you around. (Technically not a school issue - but still important.) I really enjoyed the book.Tom Gate’s books always have lots of unexpected twists. My favorite part was when Tom and his family figured out that they were staying in the wrong place. It is a really good fiction book.

Tom Gates Scholastic Canada | Tom Gates

This is my kind of book: hilarious, enjoyable and very creative. The author kept me hooked throughout with the funny plots and cleverly drawn illustrations – which to me is what makes this series of books. One of the many plots I found enjoyable was when one of the characters, Buster Jones, draws all over the class cabinet where all the teachers’ faces were and drew moustaches, fangs and horns on them. I also loved the bit where Tom draws a picture of his teacher, Mr Fullerman, with a big bottom and calls him “Mr FullerBUM”. The characters were spot on and reminded me of people in my old school. A great read. I cant WAIT for the next one. Good things: Get excited for a week's worth of drawing, doodling, games, stories and activities in this fantastic new illustrated offering from bestselling author Liz Pichon! Mr Fullerman has a class assignment: a family tree! Tom's ready to learn all about the Gates family, his friends and a furry creature (or two!). Readers are introduced to Tom’s best mate Derek, who is also his neighbour, and band mate in the cool band Dog Zombies! We meet Tom’s grumpy older sister Delia, who is on the receiving end of a lot of Tom’s cheeky and audacious pranks. Not forgetting Tom’s annoying arch enemy - Marcus, who he has to sit next to everyday in class… Tom navigates all the ups and downs of growing up, making friends, getting through school and avoiding as much homework as possible!a b "Pichon, Liz, (born 16 Aug. 1963), author and illustrator, since 1990". (It’s like we never had a holiday.) 34 THIS book is FULL of EXCELLENT stories to make you LAUGH! Oakfield Town is having a PARADE and everyone wants to take part. ESPECIALLY Marcus (no surprise there). Mum and Dad have left Delia in charge, which is NEVER a good idea. And I find out that trying to have a sneaky scoop of caramel ice cream doesn't end well. BUT at least my doodling is as SPECTACULAR as ever. Another fantastic story from Liz. My son devours these books and finds them hilarious. Love the writing and illustration style of them and they always inspires my son to illustrate things himself too." A. S. Tatton-Reid I “ t looks like Marcus,” Derek laughs. “Or Norman Watson on candy!” I say. “Bet it belongs to a little new kid who doesn’t know any better!” says Derek. “What kind of person would have a stupid-looking bike like that?” I laugh. Ha! HHaa! ! HHaa!! HHaa! ! Ha! We both laugh! But is NOT laughing Tu T Tu T because it’s her bike. School janitor Stan is shaking his head and tutting in a disapproving way (which is making his keys jangle) because I have upset Amy (AGAIN!). She calls me an and takes her bike away. I say “Sorry,” but Amy ignores me. (She ignored my five merits, too.) It’s been a terrib le day . 39

Tom Gates: Top of the Class (Nearly) | Summer Reading Challenge

At this rate it's going to take a MILLION years for Tom to get the art box of his dreams... or will it?In 2020, tales from the books were adapted into a stage production called ‘Tom Gates Live’. With a short run, the producers of Horrible Histories and Gangsta Granny brought the characters to life and toured the UK. As well as the main series, Liz Pichon has also published other books in the Tom Gates universe. From a music book with real grade 1 notations for music exams, to a big activity book, there’s so much to get kids engaged. Author Liz Pichon regularly tours with events like ‘How to draw like Tom Gates’ where children (and grown ups!) can practice their best doodles with the creator herself. This book was very creative, fun and enjoyable to read. The front of the book is very colourful and imaginative. Not so good things: Pichon is dyslexic, like her character Tom Gates. [ citation needed] In 1990, she married Mark Flannery and they have three children: one son and two daughters. [3] They currently live in Brighton.
