About this deal

The Uninvited by Clive Harold purports to be nonfiction book about a series of UFO events that happen in the lives of the Coombs family, primarily on their farm in 1977. It begins fairly innocuously strange lights in the sky, malfunctions in electronics in their house. Then it begins to escalate; their cows show up multiple times in a neighboring farmers field, despite them being unable to find a single hoof print or human print around the cows that would indicate someone would have moved the cows. And it escalates to a direct encounter with extra terrestrials. When the republican movement split in 1921-22 over the Anglo-Irish Treaty, MacArdle sided with Éamon de Valera and the anti-Treaty Irregulars. She was imprisoned by the fledgling Free State government in 1922, during the Civil War, and served time in both Mountjoy and Kilmainham Gaols. Phelan, Carolyn. "Win or Lose, I Love You." Booklist, vol. 112, no. 1, 1 Sept. 2015, p. 101. Gale Literature Resource Center. Accessed 23 Mar. 2021. I had been trying to find a copy of this book for years with no success. A nice lady on Goodreads sent me a link. (Thank you!) It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that inspired me to stay up later than intended to read just one more chapter; certainly one of my favorite reading discoveries this year.

Uninvited: Summary and Quotes — Willowing Well

I think the lower rating of this book is mainly attributed to my experience and the pacing of my reading, compared to the content. 3.5 stars is in by no means a bad rating, but I think I would have given this book a higher rating if I meditated and digested on the content more.

Acceptance is like an antibiotic that prevents past rejections from turning into present-day infections. The need for belonging runs deep.” They had thought things through; they knew that their circumstances were likely to change, that they wouldn't always want to share a home, and they had made provision for that. Bitterness, resentment, and anger have no place in a heart as beautiful as yours. #UninvitedBook @LysaTerKeurst TerKeurst, Lysa (2018). But some of our biggest disappointments in life are the result of expectations we have of others that they can’t ever possibly meet.”

In between the house talk and the ghost talk there were allusions to their Irish home and it was clear that their roots and their history were important to them.

Her newest book, It’s Not Supposed to be This Way, is scheduled for release in November of 2018. Lysa was recently awarded the Champions of Faith Author Award and has been published in multiple publications such as CNN and Fox News online. Additionally, she has appeared on the Today Show as one of the leading voices in the Christian community. A review for her 2014 book The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands reads, "TerKeurst's often self-deprecating humor and ability to be vulnerable, combined with insightful Bible references, make this a book women can relate to in a hundred little ways each day". [19] How dangerous it is when our souls are gasping for God but we’re too distracted flirting with the world to notice.” Dorothy Macardle was born in Dundalk, Ireland in 1889 into a wealthy brewing family, famous for their Macardle's Ale, and was raised Roman Catholic. She received her secondary education in Alexandra College, Dublin – a school under the management of the Church of Ireland – and later attended University College, Dublin. Upon graduating, she returned to teach English at Alexandra. I've had this older hardcopy edition of The Uninvited for several years. I remember finding it at a used bookstore in Maryland and bought it solely because I remembered enjoying the 1944 movie version starring Ray Milland and Gail Russell.

I lay down my need to understand why things happen the way they do. I lay down my fears about others walking away and taking their love with them. I lay down my desire to prove my worth. I lay down my resistance to fully trust Your thoughts, Your ways, and Your plans, Lord. I lay down being so self-consumed in an attempt to protect myself. I lay down my anger, unforgiveness, and stubborn ways that beg me to build walls when I sense hints of rejection. I lay all these things down with my broken boards and ask that Your holy fire consume them until they become weightless ashes. And as I walk away, my soul feels safe. Held. And truly free to finally be me.” TerKeurst, Lysa (2020). Forgiving what you can't forget: discover how to move on, make peace with painful memories, and create a life that's beautiful again. I would like to add that Macardle's novel is a lot more than just a ghost story. She was an ardent Republican feminist who was appalled at the codification of the domestic role of women in the 1937 Irish Constitution. Therefore, it is no surprise that the main character Pamela breaks from these stereotypes. But most of all, the ghost story itself cleverly is about how a family that has literally deified a dead woman, who in life was idealized as a virtuous example of domestic martyrdom to a toxic marriage. I can't say more without spoilers, but I assure you Macardle's criticism is excellently expressed in the theme of this entertaining story without being preachy at all. So, for something positive - Terkheurst's writing is engaging, which is always a plus, and her personal stories really add color to her topics. This book missed the mark for me, but I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it at all. TerKeurst is a native of Tallahassee, Florida. Her parents divorced when she was in middle school. She was raised a Christian, but gave up on her faith when her 16-month-old sister died. She graduated from Furman University in South Carolina. [23] God’s love isn’t based on me. It’s simply placed on me. And it’s the place from which I should live . . . loved.”
