To follow Gracie and Daniel through their adventures is interesting. Daniel is brave and outgoing, whereas Gracie is shy and hidden away. This doesn't stop her from facing her fears and following her best friend, though. This book fits into the 'book that teaches you about another time in history' because it is set during World War Two. This story is quite brilliant. I love the way how the start is quite boring so it grips the reader to the edge of their seat. Then the story becomes more active.

David Wood, chair of Action for Children’s Arts, said Morpurgo is “one of our greatest storytellers”. But it's a slower book then the others we've read by Morpurgo, so I don't think kiddo enjoyed it as much as the others. I sure did. I liked the mystery in the ending, it was a good ending. I couldn't really think of another one, to be honest. It's left a bit open, but it was really nice and touching.
