The keyboard hasn’t changed much between generations, except for the redesigned arrows, which are now smaller, but also better spaced from all the keys around. As with other gaming laptops in Asus’ TUF series, the Asus TUF A15 is a big, chunky device that’s a far cry from Asus’ Zephyrus range – but then, that’s part of the appeal. As the ‘TUF’ moniker alludes to, the Asus TUF A15 places build quality and durability at the forefront of its design. In the CPU department, the Asus TUF A15 features the new AMD Ryzen 7 4800H. It’s not quite the flagship mobile processor from AMD (that’ll be the Ryzen 9 4900HS), but the Asus TUF A15 isn't aiming to be a flagship laptop. What it is aiming to be is a machine that offers a mix of performance and value, and that’s why we like Asus’ choice of the 4800H. With Adaptive-Sync, the display’s refresh rate synchronises with the GPU’s frame rate to reduce lag, minimise stuttering, and eliminate visual tearing for ultra-smooth and immersive gameplay. Level up your multitasking abilities by connecting a second monitor via the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C™, which is G-SYNC® enabled and supports DisplayPort™ 1.4. Play 4K Ultra HD movies, videos, and games on big-screen TVs with HDMI 2.0b. The TUF Gaming A15 FA506 is not yet widely available at the time of this article, and we’ll update the section once that changes. This is a highly-specced configuration of the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506, but Asus offers the series in a few different versions. Base models start with an AMD Ryzen 5 4600H processor, 8 GB of RAM, Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics and a 48 Wh battery (TUF Gaming FA506II), while mid-range units get more RAM and GTX 1660 TI graphics (TUF Gaming FA506IU). Update: I think I figured out what’s going one here. As shown in those pictures above, there’s a heatpipe that goes right next to the main SSD, and that is what’s causing the drive to get hot. I experienced the exact same behavior on the A15 FA506IU we’re currently reviewing, but not on the A17 FA706II, which is the lower-tier GTX 1650TI configuration that doesn’t require that heatpipe. You can also notice that Asus wrapped the SSD in a thermal shield, but that’s not enough to keep it cool, and the high temperatures could lead to potential long-term reliability issues. All in all, Asus did a really good job with this laptop and I’m confident it’s going to be highly popular throughout 2020.
