Meltzer, Dave (July 21, 2016). "Pittsburgh television host Bill "Chilly Billy" Cardille passes away at 87" . Retrieved 1 November 2016. William Robert Cardille (December 10, 1928 – July 21, 2016), also known as " Chilly Billy", was an American broadcast personality from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was well known to regional viewers as a late-night horror host, but is perhaps more widely remembered for his appearance in George A. Romero's landmark zombie film Night of the Living Dead (1968), portraying a fictional version of himself. The show was remembered for several unique features, one being its theme song, "Experiment In Terror" performed by Al Caiola, written by Henry Mancini. The original set was meant to be a laboratory. It was changed to a castle motif when a cast of supporting characters was added in later years. That cast included Terminal Stare (Donna Rae), Georgette the Fudgemaker (Bonnie Barney), Norman the Castle Keeper (Norman Elder), and Stefan the Castle Prankster (Steve Luncinski). During breaks in the movie, Cardille would perform several sketches, like reciting horoscopes, trivia, and telling a series of corny jokes to a giggling skull.

Chiller Theatre was replaced by a new program called The Saturday Late Show, which still featured the horror and sci-fi movies, but without the local element that made Chiller Theatre what it was. The show was canceled less than a year later. Cardille was also the father of actress Lori Cardille who played the lead role in Romero's Day of the Dead. Bill Cardille was an extra as one of the zombies towards the end of Day of the Dead. This book is about somebody who lives in a refrigerator. He cleans it up and turns the light on and off. And there are a bunch of short stories about some of his adventures. I liked the cover and the pictures. There was just the right amount of pictures to tell the story. I liked lots of different things about the book like the Fridge Olympics. I also liked how the person who wrote the story was creative like making the bed out of ice and the lamp out of an icicle. I liked how there was an “Icycle” (instead of a bicycle) in the story. I liked the book, it was really funny. I would rather have someone read it to me than read it myself. I think boys and girls 8 and under would like this book. Until 2014, Cardille could be heard on radio station WJAS [1] AM 1320 in the mid-day slot. He retired from WJAS in 2014. During his retirement he resided in McCandless, in Pittsburgh's North Hills, with his wife Louise. Chiller Theatre 's successful run ended at the end of 1983. Precipitating its demise was a decision by WPXI management to air the hour-long weekend edition of Entertainment Tonight immediately after Saturday Night Live, pushing Chiller Theater's start time to 2:00a.m. -- too late for even the most devoted fans to fight off sleep. The show ended January 1, 1984. Despite the cancellation of Chiller Theatre, Cardille did not disappear from WPXI-TV. He continued his duties as chief booth announcer and did the weather reports during the noon newscasts for many years until his retirement. After that, Cardille returned to his radio roots until his death in July 2016.In early July 2016, Cardille's family announced that he was battling cancer for the second time. He died the morning of July 21, 2016, [6] at his home in McCandless, Pennsylvania. [7] Outside of broadcasting, Cardille owned and operated Chilly Billy Cardille Travel and Tours in Wexford for many years, which was managed by his son, Bill Jr.
