Cha, Steph (August 8, 2014). "Kanae Minato's 'Confessions' hits its mark with a vengeance". Los Angeles Times.

The moral dilemma of punishment is something toyed with here. Should Moriguchi report the students responsible for her young daughter’s death? Is she wrong to seek revenge on them? This is where Minato’s writing style comes into its own. The passing between the teachers opening thoughts, a student within her class, and then the two killers gives a well-rounded view of the situation.Confessions’ revolves around the revenge plot contrived by a middle school teacher Yuko Moriguchi. Her four-year daughter Manami accidentally dies on the school grounds but on further investigation, she learns it wasn’t an accident. Heartbroken, she decides to resign but during her last lecture to the class, she reveals the truth about the incident and sets in motion a plan to avenge her daughter. The story showcases the lives of the people in the aftermath of her confession. the only issue was the repetitive events and repetitive naaration which was okay at first but then I really started to get bored reading about them again and again.

Hikikomori is another theme analysts discussed. In the novel, Naoki is considered a hikikomori by both his mother and sister because of his severe reclusion from the outside world and his family. It is attributed to his belief that he might have contracted AIDS, and he stays away from everyone to keep the spread diminished. Wall Street Journal selected Confessions as one of the 10 best mysteries of 2014. [9] Works in English translation [ edit ] The English edition of Minato's Confessions, published in August 2014, was described by a critic as "the Gone Girl of Japan." [8]insana masumiyet kavramını çok sert şekilde irdeletiyor. Kelebek etkisinin toplumda eğitim-öğretmen ve aile üçlemesini, başarının ödüllendirilmesini, medyanın bu kavramları metalaştırmasında değer yargılarımızın aslında nasıl pasifize edildiğini ve neleri gözden kaçırdığımızı gösteriyor. a b c d e Sejahterawati, Ninna febrianna. "An Analysis of Power Relations in Kanae Minato's Novel Confessions" (2008). (2019).

Middle school teacher Yoko Moriguchi's ( Takako Matsu) life comes crashing down after the murder of her 4 year old daughter. Eventually Yoko Moriguchi suspects some of her own students to have been responsible for her daughter's death. An elaborate plan for revenge then ensues, including forcing students to drink HIV tainted milk ... Not quite satisfying as revenge-play, either, Confessions is built up intriguingly enough to keep readers interested, but with its many frustrating elements it does fall rather flat. But then after everything happened, you have to ask yourself what happened and who actually did it. You won't believe the twist that's coming. Throughout, Werther, who visits Naoki's house regularly with Mizuki, in the hopes of trying to convince him to return to class, is blind to pretty much everything around him. This book was not quite what I expected it to be, but I still enjoyed it. If you are looking for an addicting and concise thought provoking psychological thriller. This is definitely it..

Confessions

The fourth section is Naoki's own account, while the fifth -- framed as a 'Last Will and Testament' -- is by Shūya, the mastermind behind the death of Manami, who now has something bigger in mind. Her şeye rağmen bu durumu görmezden gelebiliyorsunuz okurken.

Many accept it as a truism that Japan is a country in which morality is situationally determined, and the stereotype does, of course, reflect one aspect of the culture; however, the degree to which Minato extends this logic in service of her story might leave the faint of heart breathless. Nevertheless, the narrative succeeds well in conveying the troubling shades of morality at play in the novel. Indeed, the only disappointment is the rather neatly rushed ending." - Erik R. Lofgren, World Literature Today None of the narrators' families are 'whole' in any meaningful sense, which Minato seems to suggest is part of the problem, but interactions both at school and outside it suggest an entire society in complete disarray.
