Meek, Thomas (19 August 2009). "Two Episodes of Mash". Edinburgh Festival List . Retrieved 2 September 2014. Donaldson, Brian (21 August 2008). "Potentially great sketches simmer to nothing". Edinburgh Festival List . Retrieved 2 September 2014. BRILLIANT, as the whole book is done in character. The personality of Philomena Cunk shines through from the very first word to the last. Diane’s accent and voice rings in your head as you read the words. This is satire at it’s best. The book is formatted as an A to Z of things important to Philomena. She has a lovely bending of the truth and develops conspiracies of things that could be true. Philomena also has great word play, not just misspellings but using the wrong words in an innocent manner. Her character is dim, but nice. She presents an alternative view on history and life.

Philomena Cunk is one of the greatest thinkers of the 21st century, and in Cunk on Everything she turns her attention to our biggest issue: why are there so many books? Wouldn’t it be better if there was just one? This is that book – an encyclopedia of ALL HUMAN KNOWLEDGE, from sausages to Henry of Eight to Brush Strokes to vegetarian sausages. Cunk on Earth review – Diane Morgan's character is so well-written it's easy to forget she's not real". the Guardian. 20 September 2022 . Retrieved 11 November 2022. Once in a blue moon, a book comes along that changes the world. The Origin of Species. War and Peace. 1984. The World According to Danny Dyer. And now, Cunk on Everything: The Encyclopedia Philomena, by Philomena Cunk. This book is very British, with numerous cultural and geographical references. Quite often when you read a memoir of a comedian, there are very few jokes throughout the book. Cunk on Everything is VERY different and is like a transcript of a stand-up comedian’s full length stage show. I found this book to be very entertaining and simply a joy to read. This is a quality, satire read. Editing was spot on and there are no wasted words, it is comedy gold. It also makes you think and forces you to refresh your views of society here in the UK. Despite being a collection of short definitions, rather than one cohesive piece, there’s something quite compelling about it. You can sit for ages just reading through random rubbish. It’s very much the internet of books. Philomena Cunk ( Diane Morgan) travels around the world, interviewing (real-world) experts such as Paul Bahn, Martin Kemp, Nigel Spivey, and Shirley Thompson about world history. [4] The series introduces subjects such as the development of agriculture and early civilization, the rise of Christianity and Islam, the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, the First and Second World Wars, and the Cold War and Space Race. With an eye to the future, Cunk concludes the series with a speculative comment on the possibility of AI takeover. [5] Episodes [ edit ] List of Cunk on Earth episodes No.
