The Biomimicry Institute’s Food Systems Design Challenge produced some interesting ideas – some of which have already seen commercial success. Felipe Hernandez Villa-Roel was a finalist for his product called Hexagro. It started with an idea to help people living in small urban spaces to grow pesticide-free food at home – as efficiently as possible. This idea is inspired by the beehive. It can drastically reduce CO2 emissions and cut water consumption by 90% (compared with traditional farming). I’ve recently been reading Janine Benyus’ book on biomimicry, and the ideas and research presented are incredible. However, the book was published in 1997 and I find myself thinking, it has been 23 years and where are all the biomimicry inspired products, buildings, cars etc? Even in deep tech circles, there is an idea that design is a time in the project when they draw sketches of the interfaces. It is not. Design starts when the owner first puts together the image of the product and ends when the project is done which is never. Sometimes we need icons in different color, as we suggested by adding css style we can change color. Here we have created one example to change color of icons with css classes.
