About this deal

The main attraction of the Bike Hand stand has got to be the price: it’s about half the price of the competition! The Sport Mechanic uses plastic adjusters that might not last as well as the sturdier fittings found on some of the more expensive models. Overall Verdict The ebikes that we show you in this blog are front and rear hub drive electric bike conversions and mid drive electric bike conversions. Some bike stands are specifically designed for heavier bikes and we’ll look at them later. Height Adjustments

Well-featured throughout, the lever on the main clamp is particularly nice, spinning to tighten before finishing with a cam-style flip to allow for easy attachment of the bicycle. Once mounted into the stand, retention of the bike is relatively solid, as is the stability provided by the three mid-length legs. Unless there’s a very specific reason to not go with a clamping repair stand (some people worry about the clamps damaging their carbon fibre frames), they should be the default choice for both casual and more serious mechanics. Sliding Clamps vs Claw ClampsFor one, it’s worth noting that if you use a clamp-on type stand with a carbon bike, only attach it to your seatpost, as other areas can be damaged by the forces exerted. However, on the plus side, they’re faster to load and often cheaper. So if you have a suitable post or wall (only into the stud on a dry wall!), then this could be a cost effective alternative to the workbench model. Do bear in mind that it won’t be height adjustable though, so it won’t be quite as versatile. The Worst Bike Stands There are thousands of bike repair stands to choose from on the market, but many won’t be suited for use with an electric bike. Like all the repair stands at this price point, there are a lot of plastic parts (where more expensive stands use metal). And this raises questions about it’s durability over time.

So how good is it? Well, The Bike Hand bench mount has pretty much the same advantages and disadvantages as the YC-100BH floor stand, to be honest. Despite being able to cope with large weight capacities, the aluminum frame stand isn’t too heavy and it folds down easily, and is relatively compact. Why it Might Not Work For You The clamp is easy to use, with a wide opening that can fit even the fattest frames and it can be rotated through 360° (like all bike stands) to ensure you can manoeuvre the bike in any position you like.

And there's a lot of variation in the weight limits of different stands. So make sure the stand you choose can accommodate the weight of your bike. However, if you’re a mechanic, who’ll be using their repair stand on a daily basis, on lots of different bikes (or your a weekend mechanic who’s not particularly cost conscious), then it makes sense to spend more.

Despite not having quite as generous maximum weight capacity as the PRS-25, the PCS 10.2 from Parktool can actually offer more stability for heavy e-bikes because of its solid steel frame. Likewise, stands like the IceToolz or even the Topeak Flash Stand are half way houses that are going to be frustrating to use and will ultimately be replaced by a proper stand! For sure: steel components will be stronger and will last longer with intense use over time. But if you’re a weekend mechanic, you can be confident that the Bike Hand stand is built to last a long time! Also, it’s maximum weight capacity is 25kg, so it won’t work for heavier electric bike models. Overall VerdictIt uses the same clamp head as the Bike Hand YC-100BH floor stand (see above). But in this case it’s attached to a metal T bar with a square plate at the bottom, which you will need to bolt onto your work bench (bolts not included!). However, if you don’t need portability and you’ve got an appropriate space, don’t dismiss a workbench or wall mounted bike clamp. They’re more stable and cheaper than floor mounted bike stands. There have been several times when working on an ebike that we needed to run the motor on the stand to fully diagnose and fix the ebike. Just remember: you won’t be able to take it out on the road with you. And once it’s mounted to your wall or worktop, you won’t be able to move it around your work space. So make sure you have enough room to work around it.
