About this deal

Uncovering Gobblets: You can move any gobblet on the board whether it is covering another gobblet or not. However, if you uncover one of your opponent's pieces, and this move reveals a line of 4 of your opponent's pieces, you lose unless you can place your gobblet over a different piece in this same line of 4. Touched Gobblet: Once you touch a gobblet that is on the board you must play it. If you touch a gobblet that cannot be played, you automatically lose that game.

Gobblet is a board game for two players designed by Thierry Denoual and published in 2001 by Gigamic and Blue Orange Games. Gobblet was a finalist for the 2004 Jeu de l'année.

The gobblets forming the line do not all have to be the same size and can be lined up vertically, horizontally or diagonally. In 2003, Gigamic and Blue Orange Games released Gobblet Junior, a version of the game for younger players, which is played on a 3×3 board.

Like tic-tac-toe, you have to get three of your pieces in a row – either horizontally, diagonally, or vertically – to win. What steps things up a notch is that you can use your larger pieces to cover the smaller pieces – this is the ‘gobbling’ part of the game. Using the bigger pieces is a more strategic move, so keep them close and don’t waste them! If you’re familiar with tic-tac-toe – and let’s be honest here, it would be surprising if you weren’t – you’ll know that the game aims to get three of your characters or pieces or whatever you want to call them in a row. Gobblet Gobblers takes this classic game, which is indeed as old as the hills, and adds a whole new level of strategy to it. Gobblet is, in fact the original game that Gobblet Gobblers is derived from. The main difference is that Gobblet isn’t played with the fun characters that Gobblet Gobblers is played with. Why We Love It: While we love tic-tac-toe, Gobblet Gobblers takes it one step further and adds a whole extra dimension to proceedings. It’s a laugh a minute and a great test of your memory. Playing Gobblet Gobblers – What You’ll Need First of all, you’ll want to set up the Gobblet Gobbler game board. You need to take the four struts and slot them together. This is really easy as they have grooves in that slot into each other. Once you’ve got it constructed, put it down on a flat surface and prime yourself for strategic laughs and plenty of gobbling! Gobbling: You can gobble up your own pieces. You can gobble up any smaller size gobblet; it does not have to be the next size down.

But if you’re like us and find that it can get a bit repetitive, and you want to plunge into another world entirely, then Gobblet Gobblers is the ideal choice for you. There are a few different variations on the Gobblet game theme, which uses the same rules and gameplay instructions as Gobblet Gobblers. These include Gobblet Junior and Gobblet 4×4. How do you win Gobblet Gobblers? The game is played on a 4×4 board. Each player has 12 pieces of the same colour but different sizes. Players take turns to place a piece on the board or move their piece that already is on the board. Bigger pieces can be placed so that they cover smaller ones. A player wins by placing four pieces of the same colour in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row.Just as with tic-tac-toe, you need to try and get three of your pieces in a row without any interceptions from your opponent. Unlike tic-tac-toe, you can ‘gobble’ your opponent’s pieces to claim the spot on the grid as your own! Alternative Games to Gobblet Gobblers If you’ve been wondering where the different sized pieces come into play, then wonder no longer! If your opponent has put down a small or a medium-sized Gobbler in a spot, you can take over their spot by placing a larger Gobbler over the top of them. This is now your spot. Moving the Gobblers The Gobblers come in several different sizes as well – you’ll get 2 large Gobblers, 2 medium Gobblers, and 2 small Gobblers for each color. The different sizes are set up so that you can play strategically – we’ll look at how you use this ‘gobbling’ strategy below. Gobblet Gobblers Rules If you place all 12 of your pieces on the board before the game is over, you simply continue playing with the pieces on the board until a winner or a draw is declared. Another fantastic game that requires as much careful thought as Gobblet Gobblers is KerPlunk, which needs the players to have dexterity and to consider their every move.
