About this deal

I was gripped my the plot and the sub-plots of Jericho dealing with being newly released from prison, re-meeting a university love interest as part of his investigation and dealing with his nemesis, Kerrigan, the criminal he was jailed for viciously beating.

Jericho A Summary and Analysis of Joshua and the Fall of Jericho

Moreover, Hussey does a sterling job of establishing the duality of Jericho’s attachment to the travelling fairground. He vividly describes life there, both the good and the bad, the magic seen by the punters and the gruelling work that goes on behind the scenes. Several interesting characters from among the travellers feature only briefly in Killing Jericho but will hopefully reappear and be fleshed out as the series progresses. The fact that the travellers remain outsiders, no matter how regularly and for how long they visit places, means they are uniquely placed to observe and influence events, largely without people noticing. A thrilling helter-skelter of a gripping mystery introducing an exciting and unique new detective, Killing Jericho will have you on the edge of your seat. Strap yourself in, the ride is just starting . . ." - Sarah Pinborough Also see The Lobster Boy and the Fat Lady’s Daughter – an American crime novel set in the traveller milieu. Dark, exciting, furiously-paced and full of twists, KILLING JERICHO sets the stage for a unique detective - ALEX SMITH, author of the bestselling DCI Kett thrillers This, surprise surprise, doesn’t work. But then what happens is that Scott somehow gets entangled with another mystery, one that’s a lot darker, that seems to be ritualistic and following an old legend of the Jericho Travelling Fair (coincidentally, relating to Scott’s family. How neatly this all ties together!). This is where Scott’s magical paedo spotting powers come in, since one of them is tasked with sending him a message about the murders, on behalf of the other, who wants him to investigate. Scott does not question this. After passing the test in bloody fashion and hearing Professor Campbell’s message – “Tell Jericho … that they’re calling out to him: the dead of Travellers Bridge” – Jericho feels compelled to investigate further. It’s the first time he has felt any interest in anything in months, and the link to traveller lore means he’s unable to resist learning more, especially when murder is mentioned. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered ( G) Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns ( H) in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. ( I) 5 When you hear them sound a long blast ( J) on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; ( K) then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” So I have preliminarilyset myself a target of 45books. I can obviously edit this later but I amconscious of the fact that I would like life to return to normal at some point this year and as it doesthat wouldprobably mean less time to read and 45 seems like a good, manageable number. I changed my target twice last year, from 30 to 40, then 40 to 50 and once I'd hit 50 I just thought Iwould leave it and enjoy everything else I read.

Killing Jericho (Killing Jericho, book 1) by William Hussey

The strong consensus among scholars is that the Book of Joshua holds little historical value. [12] Its origin lies in a time far removed from the times that it depicts, [13] and its intention is primarily theological in detailing how Israel and her leaders are judged by their obedience to the teachings and laws (the covenant) set down in the Book of Deuteronomy. [14] The story of Jericho and the rest of the conquest represents the nationalist propaganda of the Kingdom of Judah and their claims to the territory of the Kingdom of Israel after 722 BCE; [3] and that those chapters were later incorporated into an early form of Joshua likely written late in the reign of King Josiah (reigned 640–609 BCE), and the book was revised and completed after the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians in 586, and possibly after the return from the Babylonian exile in 538. Killing Jericho was, in all honesty, an exercise in frustration. If you like the kind of mysteries that are typified (in my mind) by shows like Whitechapel, all theatrics and quite a lot of suspension of disbelief required, then it’s likely that you will get along with this one. I, on the other hand, did not.

History Makers: Female Writers Dominate the 2023 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award Shortlist What an interesting book that was! Lots of going on here and it might not be to everyone. There are gruesome descriptions of the murders with a little edgy goth style. It is a dark thriller with a dark main character. I wanted to like Jericho but he was largely unlikeable. Even so, I think I would read another story featuring him if the plot and characters were less overwrought. When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the Lord went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the Lord’s covenant followed them. 9 The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard ( O) followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding. 10 But Joshua had commanded the army, “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout! ( P)” 11 So he had the ark of the Lord carried around the city, circling it once. Then the army returned to camp and spent the night there.

Jericho in Joshua? Why did God order the destruction of Jericho in Joshua?

William Hussey is the critically acclaimed author of Young Adult novels Hideous Beauty and The Outrage. In his debut adult thriller, Hussey wanted to create a lead character that reflected his own experiences. Having grown up in the Traveller community as the son of a fairground showman, he has created the first Traveller detective protagonist in crime fiction history. And, like his hero, Hussey is a gay man existing in this culture, with all its complexities, richness and challenges, all of which has heavily inspired his writing. Scott Jericho has returned to the fairground where he grew up with his family. Since he left, he has been many things – a student, a policeman, a prison inmate – but now the only place that he feels welcome is the fairground. But his past mistakes are haunting him even there – he was sent to prison for assaulting a child-killer, which caused the case against him to collapse, and now that killer is stalking him for some reason – but that is nothing compared to what is to come. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.
