About this deal

If you prefer to eat your mango in long, thin slices, this is the tool for you. This Amco cutter has two ends, one for chopping the sides of your mango and the other for thinly slicing it. It’s your best bet if you’re making a mango tiramisu or decorating a pav. Plus, it’s slim like a bottle opener, which makes it super easy to toss in your cutlery drawer when you’re done. A fresh mango salad is bountiful in both flavor and nutrients. Between the mango, peppers, greens, and tomatoes, it’s rich in Vitamins A, B, C, and K as well as magnesium and potassium. In certain parts of the world, parents let their babies chew on mango seeds as natural teethers, especially since they leave that delicious, tropical taste behind that babies love. Slice the Mango. Peel the fruit with a vegetable peeler. For an unripened mango use a grater like the kind you would use for cabbage salad, or a kitchen mandoline and grate the flesh of the mangoes. For a ripe mango, use a sharp, dry knife to slice the fruit away from the pit. Slice the mango chunks into strips and transfer to a bowl. If a vegetable peeler is a tool that you use infrequently, this might be more than you need, but if you want a variety of blades, this is a must-have set. Each peeler has its own clear safety cover to make sure blades aren’t exposed in storage.

It isn’t sweet like a juicy mango at all. Instead, the flavor and texture are similar to a crisp Granny Smith apple. It has one of the most unique, non-tropical flavors of all mango. Optional Garnishes – Cilantro adds a fresh citrus flavor that melds well with the savory roasted peanuts – which will also add a nice final crunch. You can tell if a mango is sweet by smelling it at the stem – it should give off a sweet fragrance. You can also cut the mango and give it a whiff. A sour mango indicates that it’s overripe. If it barely smells or has a neutral smell, it means that the mango isn’t ripe yet. What color is a ripe mango? The Mango Peeler can be operated as a stand-alone machine, but several machines can also be linked together. One person can operate 3 – 4 machines. A series of machines has a conveyor belt to take fruit to the next stage of the process and dispose of all waste stones and peelings.

Method 2: using a spoon

The fruit is not clamped during peeling, but held by the stone. This makes it possible to process soft or relatively ripe fruit without damaging the flesh. The most popular way to reach that juicy flesh is by slicing your mango into three parts vertically. You’ll want to stand your mango on its tip so that its stalk is facing you. Using a sharp or serrated knife, slice downwards on the left and right side of the mango seed until you have three even parts. We had no issues peeling any vegetables, from hard sweet potatoes to delicate tomatoes. It cut well in both directions, though we did find that sometimes peels got caught in the blade rather than falling away, so it slowed the peeling time down a bit, especially with potatoes. However, the peeler managed to remove the peels in one swipe and didn't remove an excess amount of the actual potato.

Fresno chili peppers are just slightly spicier than jalapeno peppers, but they also have a fruity flavor that you won’t find in jalapenos. The Thai sweet green mango (Mamuang Kiew Sa Wei) is extremely crunchy, with nutty and slightly floral notes. Always wash and dry mangoes before slicing. Excess dirt and dust is prone to exist on the outer surface. The most important part of the peeler is the blade. If the blade is strong and sharp, you’re going to have a tough time getting through certain vegetables, and you also want a blade that stays sharp.

Storing & freezing tips

Hold the mango steady with one hand, and use the other hand to cut slices with the butcher’s knife, avoiding the mango pit.

Fish Sauce– A unique blend of salty and sweet. A combination of soy sauce and vinegar is your closest alternative. If you’re wanting an automatic peeler, but you don’t own a stand mixer, you can opt for this freestanding electric peeler. It claims to work on most produce, such as potatoes, apples, citrus, and stone fruits. Although the position of the peeler can be adjusted to accommodate fruit and veggies of all sizes, it struggles with thinner items like parsnips and carrots and heavier items like butternut squash. Start with ripe but firm mangoes. If the mango is too ripe, it will be hard to get a good grip on, and be super messy to cut (see tip below). For a raw mango, it is best to slice it and scoop the pulp with a spoon. Yes, you can cut a mango to prepare ahead. Just place the cut mango in an airtight container and keep it stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Cut mangoes won’t continue to ripen in the refrigerator. Can You Cut Fresh Mango and Freeze It? But if you push against the skin and flip it inside out, you’ll be treated to a fan-like effect (see the image above). No, don’t feed mango seeds to your pets. Similar to avocado seeds, mango seeds contain trace amounts of cyanide that can become poisonous for animals when chewed on. However, the amount of cyanide is too low to pose a threat to humans unless you eat many seeds. Other Uses for Mango Seeds

It’s a matter of personal choice, but we think it’s best not to peel a mango before cutting it. If you leave the skin on, it won’t get as messy. How can you tell if a mango is sweet? Manual peelers are available in a straight handle design or a Y-peeler. For the straight handles, the blade is parallel to the handle, so you’ll hold the blade on its side and work in a sideways fashion, sort of like you’re brushing hair. For a Y-peeler, the blade is perpendicular to the handle, so you’ll work in a more vertical motion like you’re painting a wall top to bottom. The difference in stroke can largely be left up to personal preference. Making the dressing is very simple as well. It’s just a matter of mashing the ingredients together into a paste, which is then thinned out with juice from the limes and cherry tomatoes.

Be careful not to cut through the mango skin when shaping into slices or dices. This makes it more difficult to scoop the fruit from the skin. Conventional peeling methods fail to provide the desired result, as the fruit is often damaged. So the Mango Peeling machine holds the fruit by the stone rather than gripping it on the skin and flesh. The peel is removed in the same way as if it were being done by hand. In other words, along the length of the fruit. The result of this peeling method is an authentic, smooth “hand-cut” finish. Tip for Over Ripe Mangoes: Slice them and avoid chopping them. If your mango is too ripe, it will be hard to cut since the juices will make it slippery and super messy. For a very ripe mango, it is best to slice it around the pit and scoop the pulp with a spoon. How to Store Comfort is key when you’re using a tool that requires diligence and repetition. Keep your hands comfortable with an easy, natural grip that’s not going to fall out of your hands. This peeler, which is equally as comfortable for righties as it is for lefties, boasts a molded handle that is easy to hold onto. The dual stainless steel blades allow you to peel in either direction. Aside from the blade’s material, it is also worth considering how it is designed. Some blades are serrated, and others have a fine edge. Consider which makes more sense for the types of food that you’ll be peeling.
