About this deal

It's 1989 and Rae Earl is a fat, boy-mad 17-year-old girl, living in Stamford, Lincolnshire with her mum and their deaf white cat in a council house with a mint green bathroom and a refrigerator Rae can't keep away from. Rae's best friend from childhood, Rae considers her to be physically perfect - something that Rae thinks she'll never be - and Rae often finds Chloe's struggles superficial and unnecessary. Throughout the series, Rae pretends to be friends with Chloe because she feels a sense of guilt for the way she sometimes thinks about her. It is also possible that Rae wants to continue being a member of Chloe's group of friends, as she enjoys having them around. She begins to explore Chloe's reasong for her actions when she takes her diary in series two, which brings them closer together. To my surprise, a lot of situations, anecdotes, characters and even dialogue were, if not exactly the same, then obviously based on Earl's real experiences.

I give this 4/5 stars, because I was not happy with the end! Not at all! But, like I said, it’s a diary. Things end, and there’s new beginnings. Earl was born and raised in Stamford, Lincolnshire. She attended Stamford High School. She obtained a degree from Hull University and won the university's Philip Larkin literary prize in 1994.Everything except Bethany. I can't imagine letting someone treat me like that. I can be as rude to myself as I want but I would never accept someone else treating me like that.

I live in Hobart, in Tasmania. I've been married for 13 years, I've got a little boy, and I would say I'm a fairly well-adjusted 41-year-old woman. I'd say my story is very, very happy, and my demons are tethered, and if they ever start playing around, I make them work for me. That's partly where the diary came from.So . . . I didn’t connect with it like I wanted to. For the most part it was an engaging-enough read but ultimately not for me. To start: I'm a fat girl. So is the girl writing this diary. I related so well to everything she is going through. Like her problems are ALREADY relatable but being the same size as her makes it so I relate extremely well. Almost too well. Which brings me to my first problem. A light read it certainly was, but I felt that the book was plotless and repetitive. I do realise that it's Rae's actual diary, and I admire her for having the courage to put it out there! Overall, this was just laugh-out-loud riotous, and filled with the exact amount of longing and angst that any teenage girl experiences.
