About this deal

The story is told from alternating perspectives of each of the women, and that helped me keep them all straight and learning about their inner motivation, insecurities, desires, and plans. I was definitely surprised many times with the twists and turns the story took, and I grew to like or at least appreciate each of the women even though some of them took me a while to warm up to. In the interest of complete honesty, this was not a book I enjoyed. Just for context, I say this as a 22-year-old woman whose favorite genre is thrillers with female main characters, which is precisely what One of the Girls is. I also really enjoyed the conclusion to this. I loved the just desserts, if you will, and the way some of the storylines really came full circle. It gave me some real satisfaction at the end. If you liked Big Little Lies, Lucy Clarke’s One of the Girls should definitely be on your TBR. Filled with suspense and mystery, One of the Girls will keep you guessing which friend is the behind the murderous plot.”– PopSugar If any reader enjoys many dark secrets and lies then you must hurry and read this book because it is a most perfect book to read during the summertime!

Moreover, the whole book carries a distinct pro-female, anti-male tone that feels a lot more like an inserted author bias than the opinions of the characters, which makes it painfully easy to draw a map of what will happen at the end. Overarching themes are fine; overarching themes that make the story predictable are...less fine. But for the sake of not spoiling, I promise not to say anything further. I just prefer books that are more mysterious throughout, including the end, such as You Are Not Alone and Final Girls. I'm actually sorry I put off reading this for so long. It was a great fit for me as I enjoy a lot of drama, suspense and low-key girl squad vibes. When Lucy Clarke is not writing her novels, she can often be found in the outdoors. Being a very outdoorsy person, she loves to engage in camping, paddleboarding, hiking, windsurfing and barbecuing with friends. The plot was perfectly paced. There was always someone’s secret to uncover, so the reader is never bored. I thought the ending was just the right amount of surprising without being over the top or unbelievable. Female friendships under the scrutiny of the Greek sunshine, this is an engrossing thriller with so many unexpected twists and turns.”— Lisa Ballantyne, bestselling author of The Guilty One Absolutely likable thriller if you enjoy the great Greek island premise and strong character driven mysteries! It was quite a long journey for Clarke to get a publishing deal but she kept pushing on. The one thing that kept her inspired and motivated was that she had the beach hut and could work on the drizzly and cold days looking out at the sea.

During these months, they used to spend almost every weekend on the beach. As such, Clarke remembers a wonderful childhood waking up to the sound of the waves and having evening barbecues. Up to this day, there is still a vibrant close-knit community in Dorset, where she met her husband when she was just eleven years old. Only thing bothered me was number of the characters: Both POVs are not equally interesting! It was fun to see each character’s different motivation to attend the wedding. Some of them are truly darker thoughts, acting like great example of villanelles! The idea for “Swimming At Night,” which was Lucy Clarke’s debut came from her fascination with travel journals. years later while they are remembering her son’s death, Jacob, the son that had been found goes missing once again. Sarah panics and puts together a search team but the kid is nowhere to be found.
