Playing With Fire is an outstanding book with amazing characters and a beautiful message. It's a story that shows you you can walk through fire and rise from the ashes, that you can overcome what you went through and come out on top, better than before. It's a story about living life to the fullest. It's about finding your person and letting that person show you you're worth everything, that you're beautiful inside and out no matter what you've been through, no matter what you did.

When I saw that Tess Gerritsen had a new stand alone novel being released, I jumped at the chance to read it. This ended up being a book that is really hard for me to rate. Tess Gerritsen definitely knows how to write and I liked a lot of things about this book. Unfortunately, there were some things that I didn't like about this book as well. I think that the experience of reading this book ended up being just okay for me. L.J. Shen decided to play with my heart in Playing With Fire. And I am surrendering without fight. Because there is no way to escape the lethal emotions in this small town romance. It was a breathtaking mix of intense feels. My heart has been taken over by this angsty, inspiring and unique romance. She wrote about some truly unique, inspiring and riveting things here.

Switch to Venice and Lorenzo who is a talented violinist and composer. Hitler and his SS agents terrorize the Jewish population and many are shipped to concentration camps or worse. Lorenzo was deeply in love when he was snatched away from his life and forced to play for the SS agents in the death camp.I seem to be alone among many reviewers who loved this book but it just didn’t work for me. The writing was great with some beautiful descriptive passages of Venice and the author is obviously extremely talented. I would like to read one of her previous books at some time to get another taste of her writing. All The Stars for "Playing With Fire"!!! I absolutely loved this book! Major feels! I was still crying during the author's note. I listened to the audio version. Julia Whelan is the narrator of one of the two points of view. She is my absolute favorite narrator. There are two storylines going on in this novel. The historical fiction aspect is a complete 5! The other storyline was a mystery and that was a 4.5 for me. Although I didn't figure the mystery part out so I'm giving this novel in total a 5! My biggest problem with this book was the ending. I HATED how the book ended. I actually needed to reflect on it for a few days before I could sit down to write a review. In Julia's case the solution seemed like nothing more than a cop out. I honestly cannot remember the last time that I was so thoroughly disappointed in the ending of a book. The part of the epilogue that attempted to pull the two stories together a little better was also a huge letdown.
