About this deal

I want to know what you think the best way to use the AX 92Us with an AX1100, and if the wired connections on the AX1100 are fast (I think I know, but the AX 92Us LAN ports seem so bad, I’m not sure any more! ).. Sorry for all the questions, but you’re evidently one of the few people on the planet who might have some real experience here (and excellent advice)! Reply This was right at my wired PC with everything connected, eveything being the cable modem, the 2 DGL-4500’s, and a Netgear 8-port unmanned switch. Both of these seem like overkill, but I want to have it set up correctly NOW to accommodate the event that we increase our bandwidth speeds in the future.

I moved to a rural place where my only access to internet is via a rusty old cable (really), >3 km from the DSLAM, dangling on a pole in the garden. Disclaimer:”*To access WAN port aggregation, cable modem, router, or switch needs to support 802.3ad standard. To achieve the best performance for a cable modem, DOCSIS 3.1 standard is required. Both my Galaxy Note 10+ and laptop are at the same spot. Laptop is using an old D-Link DWA-182 wifi adaptor (AC1200 dual band b/g/n/ac). My Note 10+ connects only to the 2.4GHz of the AX92U (main unit), where as the D-Link connects to the 5GHz of the same unit. I don’t know why, my phone can only connect to 5Ghz if i’m in front of AX92U, and if i leave the unit out of sight, my phone switches to 2.4GHz. I had rebooted the router to no avail. Phone still connects to 2.4GHz while the wifi adaptor connects to 5GHz. How can I make the phone to select 5GHz? However, if i goto the node (located upstair) coverage area, phone connects to its 5GHz without issue. How can I make my phone connects to 5GHz of the main unit? The Asus RT-AX92U, first released in mid-2019, is an interesting case for two reasons. First, you only find it during the transition from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6. And secondly, well, I reviewed it twice. After a lot of firmware upgrades, this has increased the coverage of my network, and has been pretty reliable, to tell the truth. As a result, the speed of some “spread out” devices has also increased (because of the mesh), and that’s good. I’ve been a follower of yours for a year now, and really love the first-class content you deliver to us. We have torrents running, xboxs via ethernet, wifi 6 phones, wifi 5 laptops, wifi 6 desktops, old 2.4 ghz smart devices and printers. A mish mash of about 20 devices and this router delivers top tier performance every time. First of all, let me thank you for your thorough and complete review of these routers. Your knowledge, insight and thoroughness is much appreciated.

ASUS RT-AX92U review: the first AiMesh WiFi system with Wi-Fi 6!

My AC-5300U I’ve deployed to the living room as an AI Mesh node. AX-86U is in my office/room and using as the main.

The LAN was phenomenally slow whenever a wired connection was involved, both on transferring files (wired to wired in the network, not internet, and wired to wireless!). The router reports 1GB connections on the wires, but they aren’t running anything like that. Oddly, it also reports a 100mb connection *on an empty port*. I assumed that was a firmware glitch, but maybe it’s more significant than that… It's important to note that this band uses DFS channels, and as such, it might be less reliable if you live near a radar station. The graphical and specification covered box carries on in earnest all the way around, with each side, heavily promoting specifications, coverage areas, how the mesh communicates and (in the biggest text of course) the promised top speeds and how they compare with 802.11ac. With the most recent firmware upgrade you can actually bind anything connected to your aimesh system to a specific node so it actually can’t jump to other nodes. This may not seem like a big deal, but the whole reason buy mesh router systems, is to have speed and control at their fingertips and if this is not customizable in a way that is both intuative or native to the connect user hardware, then you will be frustrated. Below is my software overview and highlights of the RTAX92U mesh router software, via a Windows 10 Pro PC.

I want to be sure they each (2 networks, one for home, one for garage) produce 2.4GHz + 5GHz networks, and support WiFi6 devices. Now I’m looking specifically for performance only, so basically max speeds, bandwidth and range. Not too concerned about the features outside of that, as I’m only looking at this router thanks to its tri-band support and the fact I have quite a few 5ghz compatible products, as well as Quest 2 I plan to use with Airlink. Hopefully what I’m asking makes sense. Reply Brilliant article (as always), I really appreciate the insights you put into each article, and the real life scenarios. The firmware updates should be installed on the entire system at once, not on each station individually With the latest firmware, the RT-AX92U is now one of a few that can take advantage of AiMesh 2.0. I have Cat7 Ethernet buried to connect the two buildings, as well as a Ubiquiti NanoStation on either end. The physical chassis design of the RT-AX92U is quite low, with more than half of the height of the device dedicated to those antennae, the rest of the router build in surprisingly petite. One side of the device (it doesn’t really have a ‘font’ so to speak) features multiple LEDs that, outside of the mobile or desktop app, are your means to knowing the health of your connection. As you would expect, some of the LEDs are just there to show the device is powered on and that you have an internet connection. The others are a little more router specific, with the 6 LEDs showing: On the inside, the RT-AX92U is a tri-band router with non-conventional specs. It's a broadcaster with a 2x2 Wi-Fi 5 band, a 4x4 Wi-Fi 6 5GHz band, and a 2x2 Wi-Fi 4 2.4GHz band, And as an aside (just out of curiosity) do you personally advocate the use of AI-protection in general? Reply Even internet speeds are significantly slower through the wire, which is crazy: normal 5ghz wireless adapters are gettng consistently faster connection speeds both on the lan and from the internet!
