The Pagoda has a rich history and was actually a gift from the founder of the Nipponzan Myohoji– a Japanese Buddhists Movement. They don’t care about the animals they support and actually the intake process was very cold and I wish I had turned back when I felt it. Industry developed eastwards along the bank of the Thames during the Industrial Revolution from 1750s onwards; the Thames provided water for transport, for steam engines and for water-intensive industrial processes. Only a short distance away from the city centre, its largest train station is Clapham Junction station which offers direct trains to Waterloo and London Victoria, but it is also served by the overground at Battersea Park station.

Every November for Bonfire / Guy Fawkes night, Battersea Park also hosts one of London’s biggestfireworksdisplays. Regular events aboard Battersea Barge include comedy nights, live DJs plus it is a popular venue to hire for weddings (so make sure you check their social channels before visiting especially).

So if you want to visit a brand spanking new Tube station that is eerily quiet or are a fan of all things London Underground, this might be an interesting way to arrive at Battersea. Battersea is the setting for Joan Aiken's Black Hearts in Battersea, the second published volume in the Wolves Chronicles.In 2021, the Northern line underground was extended two stops into Battersea, with brand new stations opening in Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station. Battersea Park has many things to see, but its zoo deserves a day (or at least a few hours) to itself. Responsibility for the latter was removed from the vestry in 1855 with the establishment of Metropolitan Boards of Work under the Metropolis Management Act 1855; a Metropolitan Board concerned itself with cross-London drainage and sewerage, whilst a local Wandsworth Metropolitan Board assumed responsibility for minor sewers and the connection of houses to sewerage systems. The Uber Boats by Thames Clippers are a speedy and sleek way to get from central London to Battersea; the journey time from central London to Battersea on the River Thames is less than 20 minutes.

Located near to Battersea Power Station along Arches Lane, the Turbine Theatre opened in 2019 and is a public space by day and small theatre by night. It’s no surprise that their food echoes this rustic yet fine style in their Amalfi coast-inspired cooking and plating. We have to admit that heights are not really our thing – we can do viewing platforms atop buildings or rooftop bars but flying foxes and shaky roof ladders just aren’t our bag. Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, formerly Battersea Dogs Home and prior to that the Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs, established in Holloway in 1860 and moved to Battersea in 1871.Kitty Neale's Nobody's Girl is set in a fictional café and the surrounding Battersea High Street Market.
