About this deal

London nightclub Ministry of Sound hired him to compile one of their first CDs, and it promptly sold 100,000 copies. The project was not picked up by any major labels but some of the songs were later included on the 2002 Culture Club Box Set. Though there had been popular androgynous artists in the past, such as David Bowie, homosexuality was still a taboo subject to put front and center in pop music in the 1980s, and most groups avoided being open about their sexual identity.

George's unconventional appearance and demeanor also attracted attention, and questions about his sexuality recurred throughout his early interviews. In 1995, Kirk Brandon sued Boy George for libel, claiming that Boy George mentioned a love affair between them in Boy George's autobiography, Take It Like a Man. In 2009, he signed a new deal and released an album titled ‘Ordinary Alien – The Kinky Roland Files. Boy George's attorney informed the court that he had advised Boy George not to appear at that hearing.

This may have been due in part to the fact that George was prohibited by US authorities from travelling to the United States for several years because of his British drug charges. His solo hit songs include " Everything I Own", " Bow Down Mister", " Generations of Love" and " Love Is Leaving" and " The Crying Game", from the soundtrack for the film of the same name.

The icon, which had adorned his home for 26 years, had been looted from the church of St Charalampus from the village of New Chorio, near Kythrea.
