One of the best is the on-going story of some squirrel criminals who appear on every double page and have their own tale of robbing somewhere and trying to get away. Additionally, the darkness will recreate the feeling of being in a small burrow, and will therefore create a feeling of security and safety. Children can follow a pig letter carrier, a parent and child sheep going about town, a bear in a bow tie gathering gifts for and then dining with a sweetheart, a pair of masked red-squirrel bandits who are making their getaway after robbing a bank, and many other characters, not to mention the antics of those bunnies on the bus. If you are planning on taking your rabbit on a long train or bus journey, then doing some shorter test runs is recommended. It’s bouncy rhythm, and use of rhyme and repeated phrases mean that pupils will take great delight in joining in as they become more familiar with the text.Bunnies on the Bus’ is around A4 in size and is filled with lots of very colourful illustrations and text on some thick matt paper. Walk slowly around the house with the carrier so that your rabbit gets used to being elevated in motion. This is a hilarious children’s book – not so much for the words of the story (in nice rhyming couplets) but for the wonderful pictures. The bunnies themselves are a right bunch of characters and it’s great that you can clearly see their different personalities through the images. The bunnies all seem to be enjoying themselves, the other animals on the street not so much as the bus won’t stop for them or they have to move out of its way.
