About this deal

My only real complaint is that it’s a bit clunky to have two separate pieces of software for your keyboard controls. Six dedicated macro keys, (which can now be used with the popular Elgato Stream Deck software), run down the left side. If you’ve used one of Corsair’s high-end mechanical keyboards in the last few years, you pretty much know what to expect in terms of physical design here. In its latest iteration, the K95 RGB Platinum XT adds premium Double Shot keycaps, integrated Elgato Stream Deck software support for the six macro keys on the left side and an appreciated padded wrist rest. Going back to bog-standard ABS caps makes the whole keyboard feel more cheap after getting used to the XT.

This makes it much easier to just bring the keyboard to a friend’s house or gaming event and instantly feel right at home. While iCue isn’t the most intuitive piece of software, it lets you do a lot and the company has an active forum where users post hundreds of downloadable lighting profiles. I don’t stream often but I do produce YouTube videos, and I loved being able to start and stop recording with my capture card with these easy to find buttons. This integrates seamlessly with an existing Stream Deck or can work all on its own with a special floating window inside Windows. From above, the denser PBT plastic and black metal of the top plate keep the lighting surprisingly isolated and avoid the light bed that occurs on lighter colored keyboards.

Unfortunately, this wrist rest also easily attracts dust, crumbs, oils and all manner of detritus – so, it requires almost constant cleaning. In short, while there’s room for improvement, the software that the K95 RGB Platinum XT is designed to work with is second to none.

Hopefully in the future Corsair will combine the features of both into one software suite for simplicity’s sake. They’re also more durable and rated for 100 million key presses each compared to the standard 50 million. Unfortunately Corsair’s proprietary Cappelix LEDs aren’t in the mix here, but even so the light show is impressive. Fortunately, creating macros is a lot easier, and CUE gives you a ton of tools to make custom keystrokes. Corsair has kept the rubber surface to its wrist rests since the early days of the original Vengeance K70.
