About this deal

Though this answer provides a few poster images and mentions Willis' initial troubles with being taken as a serious actor, it neither confirms or denies there having been a poster without Willis on it. Similar ads were posted on July 12th-14th by The Miami News, The Record, The Philadelphia Enquirer and The Daily News. Although we know Hans is capable of vile acts, he actually sees those as merely means to a greater and somehow justifiable end. I'm not going to dig around for a ton of references to it, but I heard it again in this YouTube review of the Die Hard C64 game (note: I'm not affiliated in any way with this YouTube video). Some of the middle floors were occupied by legal and administrative departments, so only empty floors were used for filming.

Only after the movie proved to be a box office hit, did they put Bruce Willis' face back on the poster. Special praise must go out to Alan Rickman too whose performance as chief baddie Hans is to this day one of cinemas finest, moving convincingly from cool, calm and collected to desperate and nervous, never once seeming anything less than utterly ruthless and calculating. I saw both posters and, when considering the rumor, looked at the original and thought "Surely they can't mean the poster in which Willis' face occupies 25% of it", but ok, fair enough. With little help from the LAPD, wisecracking McClane sets out to single-handedly rescue the hostages and bring the bad guys down. There is an episode of the docu-series The Movies That Made Us (a spin-off of The Toys That Made Us) that is about the making of "Die Hard". There is a comment on a forum mentioning this poster: "When it was released in 1988, the Houston Chronicle Newspaper had a full 2 page print AD for it . He made action movies slick, smart and full of pace and wit while never letting up on the bullets, cars and bombs front. Willis, most famous at the time for the comic TV Series 'Moonlighting', made a perfect ordinary-man-in-an-extraordinary-situation action hero.

Naturally, once the movie was a smash hit and Willis was liked by the audience, a new poster was hastily released that featured his likeness. Still, the filming of scenes that involved gunfire had to be postponed until after hours because some of the employees from the active floors started to complain about the noise. Some information and/or images in this header may be provided either partially or in full from The Movie Database. com are intended for non-commercial entertainment and education use only - reviews, fan art, blogs, forums, etc. Regarded as one of the great 80's action movies, and the favourite Christmas movie of a surprising number of people.

At the end, McClane says "You got a warranty for this (Holly's watch, a gift from Nakatomi Corporation)? CodyS Well, while the answer is certainly good, there's nothing that says this necessarily is the poster you've heard about and if there might not be more to the rumour your heard. Complete with a serialized certificate of authenticity and verifiable numbered hologram, this piece is a secure investment that will increase in value with age. If someone has access to microfilm archives of that newspaper, they should be able to track down the original 2-page ad. It's not that he was excluded, but given he was only seen as the comedic character David Addison in Moonlighting the studio was possibly nervous about featuring Willis.
