About this deal

Synology has always maintained a remarkably envious position in the NAS industry over the last decade or so. It misses out on Plex hardware transcodes, but that won't be a limitation for a majority of users eyeing this particular NAS for home use.

That said, the Ryzen R1600 doesn't have an integrated GPU, and that means the DS723+ loses a key feature: hardware Plex transcoding.

slots for storage, and that is a huge deal — considering just how long it took the brand to roll it out.

The DiskStation DS723+ has several enticing upgrades that make it a great choice over its predecessor. So by sharing your query in the ASK NASCompares section below, you can get a better range of solutions and suggestions, alongside my own. Personally we would have preffered to see at least 2 USB ports given that you’d have no free ports if a UPS is connected on the DS723+ permanently via USB.

That said, the results in both a RAID 0 and RAID 5 setup and in particular file size tests, full saturation of read transfers of 1. The actual performance may be lower than lab testing figure due to differences in server configuration, deployment, and the number of active operations.

And having said that, you can use a 20TB IronWolf Pro with the NAS just fine; the only caveat is that should something go wrong, the brand will not provide technical assistance. I’m sure there are benefits for other applications and efficiency, but it’s not like the Celeron CPUs were ever overburdened for typical NAS tasks. Synology today announced the new 2-bay Synology DiskStation DS723+, the smallest expandable option in its lineup of all-in-one solutions for home offices and small businesses. Finally, in spring/summer of 2022, we learned that the highly enterprise SAS tier of their portfolio would switch from Intel to AMD and their EPYC processors in the SA6400 and SA6200 Rackstations. No boot option: You can't use these fast SSDs as the primary or the only volume of the server that holds the operating system.Unlike previous models where one of the memory modules were soldered onto the mainboard, the DS723+ allows for all modules to be upgraded. storage pools requires the use of Synology-verified SSDs, which are rigorously tested under extreme temperature conditions. It is the same processor that is in the DS1522+, which we demonstrated could saturate 10GbE in a RAID 5 (more on this later) and also the DS1522+ NAS performs well in Plex at 1080p and native (non transcoded/convereted) 4K too, so the switch by Synology from an Intel to this AMD is not without merit. Although 2x SATA drive 10G performance on the DS723+ and it’s CPU+Memory combo cannot be confirmed right now, I CAN answer the question of how the R1600 CPU and pro-class hard drives will perform over 10GbE in a four drive combo.
