About this deal

Fully waterproof with a high hydrostatic head rating (twice the minimum UK waterproofing standard), the Genus 400 also comes with a detachable groundsheet, which is very handy when you need to give your tent a clean. As long as you try to position it with its back or sides towards the wind-direction, it should be fine. A bespoke footprint is available to protect the groundsheet from uneven ground and to help retain the heat. It features a soft fleece upper and foam mid-section for underfoot warmth and comfort, and a tough waterproof base to protect the carpet against abrasion and the damp groundsheet. We found that the inside of the tent was light enough to happily sit around in the living/porch space.

So they warn you that their tents are designed for ‘occasional use’ for a maximum of 4 weeks per year. Although, considering the quality of the pumps that sometimes come with the air tents, maybe it is not that big a loss.

Hi Greg I used this tent for the first time this weekend really warm for the cooler nights as I wanted a sewn in ground sheet. As for other products within the Eurohike Air range ie accessories, replacement parts; there are a few choices.

These do not come included with the tent, but the front door does have the eyelets in the corners, and we just pinched some poles from an old windbreak we had lying around. Though, most of the time, the loose groundsheet does not attach to the main / side doors, so there ALWAYS be a gap between the groundsheet and the door.To give you some idea of the quality you’re getting here, not only is the hydrostatic head waterproof rating 4,000mm, but the tent was tested at a toe-numbing -20 deg C! There’s one thing worth noting is that the Quechua Air Seconds and the Genus 400 don’t have side doors, the other three have. Excellent tent although the bedroom compartment is a little smaller than I thought, as it looked like it was 2 compartments however it is only 1. These two have sewn-in groundsheets, while the others have loose that are secured to the flysheet by velcro.

The Genus 400 is a 4-person tent, offering 1 bedroom (cannot be separated to two) that is exactly the same size as the Eurohike’s; however the porch/living room area is slightly smaller and you only have one front door (no side-door). The biggest drawback probably is the loose groundsheet, while the 5-year warranty puts it clearly ahead of the Genus 400.My Best Air Tents in 2020 (round-up post) may also give you some more ideas what’s worth looking at.

Put it all together and the Genus is an exceptionally well appointed tent that meets the needs of a modern family with ease. I could not see one for the Kent, but it you make some measurements of the pole (how long, how thick in diameter) there is a good chance that one of those will fit your old tent. On the other hand, Quechua provides 5 years warranty, so probably that’s how they can provide it, and nothing happens if you happen to have the Air Seconds 4. The magic number is 3000mm HH which is short for Hydrostatic Head – it is enough to know that it is waterproof.

The Eurohike Air 400 is ideal for couples and smaller families for a weekend away, or to some extent, for longer trips. You probably ask why the Genus 400 is so lightweight: well, that’s down to the weight of the fabrics used. All 5 are very basic, small family tents with inflatable beams, ideal for beginners for a quick weekend getaway, occasionally used throughout the warmer months when weather allows.
