This is an extremely important book to have in all houses as this is a conversation we should be having with our children. I learned a new term (Mx) and some of my favourite parts of the book were the letters W and Y as we look to the future and support our youth and equal rights for all because at the end of the day to each their own (if you read the book you will find that one! I’m all for teaching kids LGBTQ-related terminology, and I’m happy to see many other LGBTQ-inclusive books, even for the very youngest children.Hmm, I really like the style of illustrations in this picture book, but sometimes they don't seem to have anything to do with the text which is kinda weird? I’d therefore suggest, “A friend who is there/Though they’re different from you, they still show they care” as closer. Allies are important, but it's more important to give visibility to a collective that is, more often than not, ignored.

I know the byline says "adult alphabet book," but really this could (and should) be on a kid's shelf. Pretty soon they’ll be saying that the Holocaust never happened…… Oh wait they already are saying that.
