About this deal
Its extra-large size gives it even more protection than a typical G-Shock, and it is one of the toughest G-Shock models ever made. The holes for the pins don't line up very well so you have to use a drill to widen the holes - not a big deal but after putting it on, it really makes the watch look cheap IMO.

It has a full stainless steel inner case under the bezel and a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, while standard 5600 models have a resin case. Of course, everyone knows that a G-Shock does just about everything time-related (that’s practical, at least).Synthetic resin is the ideal material for wrist straps thanks to its extremely durable and flexible properties. Available internationally as the GX-56, the Japanese version is the GXW-56, which adds Multi-Band 6 in addition to Tough Solar power. The 3495 module is also used in GMW5000 models and the LED light works beautifully on the metal models. The metal G-Shock squares look great, and there have been a couple that almost caused me to pull the trigger.

It’s made in Japan with upgraded components like a metal inner casing, premium rubber strap, and screw-down case back. Like the early G-Shock models, it has a screw-lock case back and is one of the only current G-Shocks, along with the digital Frogman and GMW-B5000, with this type of build. Update (2/15): A promotional e-mail from Casio America describes the GW5000U-1 as a “Limited Release,” and it is now sold out. It’s a special model made for certain fans, not really meant to compete with or replace other models. Now that I have the watch, I don’t need his images for this article, but I’ll include one as a tip of the hat. I always assumed it would be metal, maybe even one of the Titanium Virtual Armor limited editions as they trickle out.
