About this deal

I can imagine a stereotypial hedge witch, g oing out and foraging, drying herbs on the attic, and having their favorite path that they go for a walk each day. I very strongly recommend everyone read this book to not only clear up some misconceptions about hedgecraft but also bring back that sense of awe and wonder for the craft we sometimes lose when life gets in the way. It was written in the form of letters, advising two newcomers to the craft on ritual and practice, but unfortunately, as the author was not privy to all the readers beliefs (obv. Held deep within the tradition is the art of hedge riding, of walking between the worlds, of being able to find the liminal places and to traverse the paths that lead to deeper wisdom and knowledge. This and similar symbolism seems to have come to Britain mainly with Saxon and other Germanic tribes.

This book will guide you if you wish to read more about hedge witchcraft as a pathway, or are already following such a path and wish to progress. Visit the trees mentioned above and bless them, giving an offering of fresh spring water or apple juice.Think ‘wise-woman’ and natural healer rather than spells and incantations and you will be close to the content of this book. The house for you is a sanctuary – a place where you regenerate, refuge, renewal, and become creative.

It can be compared to the Northern or Norse tradition of seith, an ancient trance-based oracular tradition that often uses communication with various beings while leaving your physical body and being between the worlds in an astral form. The art of hedge riding can still be seen today, in the traditional portrait of a witch riding her broom. Upon her arrival, things are rather suspicious as magical events are causing unrest and panic in the secret community of those wise to such practices and when it becomes clear that even the cowans- non magical folk - are taking notice, Rowan is determined to find out what is going on and put a stop to it no mater what. Wicca is all about creating an "inner space" and strengthening the practitioner's connection with the earth and Ether.I’ve heard it said that there’s not a great deal of practical difference between a solitary Druid and a Hedgewitch. It is a symbol of the World Tree, the axis mundi, that so many religious and spiritual traditions the world over use in their cosmology. I believe this has been clarified in later editions but needs to be kept in mind when reading this particular edition.

A lovely little novella that explores the complexities of identity, friendship, and career path choices through the lens of a young witch. There are some outdated and even problematic aspects, but the underlying teachings and techniques for ritual and trancework are very insightful. The more you open yourself up to them, the more likely they will be to offer you gifts and protection when you need it.While learning about Hedge magic, Rowan discovers new friends but also some strange goings on in the village, which the normal folk have begun to notice.
