About this deal

Paddy Whiskey is allowed to mature in oak casks for seven years, and its high malt content has given it the reputation of being one of Ireland’s smoothest and best Irish whiskey brands. Still, they all get the job done and don’t stand up to any of the better Irish pot still whiskeys ( Redbreast 12) or malts ( Tyrconnell). These are inexpensive on the secondary market due to the requirement that American bourbon and Tennessee whiskeys be matured new oak barrels. John Jameson opened the distillery shortly after marrying into the powerful Haig family, who owned several scotch whisky interests throughout the United Kingdom. It is packed full of flavour and contains a blend of selected whiskies, which were matured over twelve years in Bourbon barrels.

First produced in 1779, it wasn't until 1913 that it changed it's name to Paddy after legendary salesman Paddy Flaherty. Further, it is relatively light and can make for the perfect starting point for any budding whiskey connoisseur. In the heyday of Irish whiskey during the 18th and 19th centuries, Irish whiskey was considered the most refined whiskey available and preferred by international palates to products such as American bourbon whiskey, Canadian Rye whiskey and Scotch whisky. The nose is grainy in a honey-nut style, and has an oily, aromatic quality that make this aspect of the whiskey just about the heaviest thing about it.The Whiskey Reviewer uses a letter-based rating system, instead of the numerical 100-grade rating system. Both Jameson and Paddy’s are blended Irish whiskeys made by combining the separate Irish whiskey sub-types made by Irish distilleries, including grain, malt and pot still whiskeys.
