About this deal

As one of the few black women in her field, Shields’ story is one of resilience – battling detractors and imposter syndrome to become a prominent astronomer. In November 2020, Rinder released My Family, the Holocaust and Me for BBC One; a documentary which helped Jewish families discover the full truth about what happened to their relatives during the Holocaust. BBC announces The Holy Land And Us: Our Untold Stories, a brave and emotional new documentary series presented by Sarah Agha and Rob Rinder". Adam is immensely likeable and is very dogged in his pursuit of evidence to help and support their client. Strictly Come Dancing launch: don't rule out Ed 'Disco' Balls's stompy dancing yet – plus 10 more things that happened".

The accused, Jimmy Knight, is being prosecuted for allegedly poisoning popular 'celebrity' police officer Grant Cliveden. He was brought up in Southgate and was educated at Osidge Primary School, Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet [7] [8] and the National Youth Theatre. He wasn’t, he says, “eviscerated” by his fellow barristers “because at the heart of it was the integrity of the legal decision, even if it was a silly case”.

I'm not a huge fan of "celebrity" books, but I do like Rob Rinder on TV and am partial to a legal thriller, especially written by someone who was a Criminal Barrister in his previous occupation. An overheard row between the policeman’s widow and a liaison officer and a surprising discovery on CCTV footage of events leading up to the death help Adam uncover some shocking discoveries. as a child, but decided to give it a try in view of the authors knowledge of the workings of the law. Tasked with defending the alledged murderer of Grant Cliveden, policeman/spokesman and all round supercop, who is the nations hero after saving the life of the Queen. Adam going the extra mile for Jimmy leads to complex connections, threats and dead ends as it barrels it’s way to a very good ending. They are to defend Jimmy Knight who is accused of the murder and it’s a stinker of a case as the evidence seems damning. Meanwhile, he is fending off his widowed mother’s attempts to introduce him to nice girls (Adam, like his creator, is Jewish and gay) and solving a mystery within his own family. For a first book this was good and was good enough that I didn't hear the authors voice running over all the characters. Rinder's writing is fast-paced and genuinely intriguing, the twists and turns providing surprises throughout.

Purists may require more overarching suspense, but individual scenes shimmer with tension in this dazzling, lyrical tale of friendship, love and grief that shines a light on the corruption and religious sectarianism of modern India. I also enjoyed the telephone conversations between Adam and his mother, who frets over her son’s well-being and is intent on finding him a girlfriend. The Trial is an easy read and I did enjoy it, however I wasn't gripped and found that despite being 400 pages, it felt much longer. Taylor-Cameron hopes to persuade him to plead guilty, and it is left to Adam to work up a case – and, in doing so, try to figure out who actually killed Cliveden.Grant Cliveden is a police officer who despite hitting the headlines many times for heroic actions, isn't interested in being treated any differently to any other officer. Her writing style is lyrical and readable, and while Shields might not be a household name in the UK, her story is well worth knowing. Throughout, there are some very deep, thought-provoking and moving quotes, that may make you rethink what you thought of the English legal system in terms of criminal justice and potential miscarriages of justice. An inspiring and informative interactive guide written for children of all ages, to get them thinking about what sports they enjoy the most or could be interested in. Myles and Lana Butler live on a smart new development in leafy, desirable Wimbledon in south-west London.
