This year Baldacci is branching out again with another new character – Mickey Gibson – a former cop and detective, current global investigator, and more importantly, a single mom with two young children. The only sound was the breeze and the occasional bird opening its beak in anticipation of the dawning springtime. Toward the end, there's one angle in the story that I didn't enjoy as much and wish the author wrap up the story instead. He bought the place about seven years ago and spent an enormous amount of money undertaking an extensive renovation.Gibson is asked to go inventory the home and assets of an arms dealer that just took off after cheating other ProEye clients.

Simply Lies has a very complicated plot and I couldn't understand Mickey's motivation to become so involved in this case. Gibson listened for a few moments as she deftly dodged Tommy’s attempts to grab her hair and knock off her headset.

Baldacci fans are used to his ability to tie the sub-plots together; that doesn’t happen in this novel. And everything in Mickey Gibson’s suburban, single-mom life was about to get blown straight to hell. If you have read this author’s work, then you know that you are in for a long and rough ride with Mickey. Gibson is a former detective now working for private investigation company ProEye, tracking down the hidden assets of the extremely wealthy who have mounting debts.

That is, until she arrives at the mansion to discover a dead body in a secret room—and that nothing is as it seems.She walked down hallways and into other rooms, taking video and dictating pertinent information to the extent she could find any from either the objects themselves or her own expertise. The long route will have me drive south through Newport News, cross the James River Bridge, head to Smithfield, and then it’s about eight miles above that, like making a horseshoe.

But he apparently made some bad decisions that sucked him dry and then he started to borrow heavily, and it turned out the assets pledged as collateral were mostly phony.
