About this deal

I think the character's grown to a point where no other magic is necessary, because hey, Valkyrie can do ALL the magic and in-universe rules don't apply to her. However, I will say that Valkyrie's role in this book is written very well, and we get some very sweet moments between her and Skulduggery, and the rest of the Dead Men. Hell Breaks Loose is a very entertaining and cleverly placed adventure with our favourite characters from the Skulduggery Pleasant universe, while we await the last book to the sequel series to release. This goes back to what I said earlier; that HBL, or at least the second half, isn't what we imagined a prequel book would be. It is revealed that Hopeless was a Knife in the Darkness, an assassin and that he seemingly has a different personality for different people, explaining why he was said to have many faces.

While nine books were planned, the series was cut down to six books by HarperCollins after the publication of Seasons of War. At least the next book is effectively a comic so will be a bit easier to picture with all these insane powerful beings running around. Here is a quick description and cover image of book Hell Breaks Loose written by Derek Landy which was published in March 30, 2023.Overall a good book, but if i think too much i can definitely see mistakes and just things Derek Landy did wrong. With the end of everything just days away – and no longer able to rely on Valkyrie Cain – Skulduggery must make allies of enemies if he's going to stand any chance of saving what is left of the world.

Hella confused and a little bit disappointed but to be very honest, I’m a diehard SP fan so this review … will be way too biased. On a brighter note, a book this entertaining to read still shouldn't be looked down on and it still is a great read just not quite what I was hoping for. A film adaption was in development under Warner Brothers but according to Derek Landy, the script was "the worst thing [he had] ever read", with Skulduggery Pleasant a "skeleton body who somehow retained his head and face", a magnifying glass magic wand, [50] and a musical number where he danced to Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror". To prevent this, Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain have one last – terrible – option: the assassination of Damocles Creed. Sorcerer's have long memories so it gives more context to people like Guild and Kenspeckle having very little trust in him.A number of supplementary short tales that are all placed a few months after the plot of each book were included with the new paperback releases. When Stephanie's uncle dies, she discovers his horror stories weren't fiction, and that evil forces are after her for a mysterious key.

However, in saying this, I already want to re-read this book to pick up on the clues I missed, but for now, I’m super content and can’t wait for more SP books to be released in the future (even though the first 9 books will always *always* be the best). They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. I think that we all came up with a vision in our heads over the last 15 books of what a prequel would look like, and what we got, at least in my case, went quite far from what I expected. If I were to sum it up, I would say that the first half reads like a Dead Men war time prequel, and the second half reads like a phase two book with phase one characters. Ghastly also proves himself a wonderful and caring friend, especially to Skulduggery, and some of his words hit me so hard.Four stars for the conversations, five stars for Ghastly's wonderful POV, three stars for the plot, and four stars for the historical setting. It went from fun adventure to Marvel-style megastory really really quickly, and to me the book was way too short for that. When Skulduggery learns of a plot to resurrect a terrifying evil, he persuades Valkyrie to join him for just 24 hours. A lot of that is due to the fact the second Valkyrie arrived I knew that the implications on the entire series would be too great if this book didn’t end with the entire events of this book becoming irrelevant to the timeline. In the rare event that an author has managed to resolve most of the conflicts, the plot usually becomes ridiculously twisted.

Derek Landy: Everyone also had Harry Potter wands, Skulduggery having a wand that was a magnifying glass to focus his fire. Midnight – For years, Valkyrie Cain has struggled to keep her loved ones safe from harm, plunging into battle – time and time again – by Skulduggery Pleasant’s side, and always emerging triumphant. Honestly was quite dissatisfied with this novel considering nearly every other SP book has been utterly brilliant. And, always, Derek plays with violence and conflict and pain in an accessible way without glorifying it; action scenes leave scars, people get hurt, people are conscious of their actions. Mevolent's only real role is to help the Dead Men with the overpowered villain, which is an extremely interesting concept, for sure, but we already saw that with Abyssinia; the Dead Men and the Diablerie.

In October 2022, Landy announced via YouTube livestream that a "one-off prequel" and "Book 0·1", Hell Breaks Loose, would release in March 2023.
